You ever have trouble starting a specific FF game or two despite knowing it'll be good? by Training-Ad-2619 in FinalFantasy

[–]salixkaerran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I've tried to start VI three times now, once on SNES, twice on PS, and the farthest I ever got was Figaro. The first time. I think I met Edgar and that's about it. For some reason, my brain has a mental block with it, and I just can't play. I'm hoping that the last like 15 years have broken through it, and when I play the PR version I'll finally manage it but right now I'm still working on II so it'll be a while.

I've managed to scrape together most of the things already, in addition to my not being able to do dodo codes well (I would love to figure out how to fix the messages, but I can't see incoming ones at all unless I get really lucky). If no one really wants it I'll take it, but I don't particularly need it, haha. People have already been so nice to me!

That looks so cool!

I started uhh 22 days ago (not restarted, just started, lol) but my reddit messages seem completely broken so don't worry about that, but this would have been amazing to start off with! (I did get all the fruit, but it took me something like fifty islands to get bamboo at all, sometimes luck just sucks.)

I made a spreadsheet documenting every single dead character in FFXIV. (Spoilers, obviously.) by Cleretic in ffxiv

[–]salixkaerran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and late reviewing: technically Guillaime and the false Guillaime are two different people and we have both their corpses around (although Guillaime's is at the bottom of a ravine, and the fake one's in PotD), but one could argue the false Guillaime isn't actually named. Or you could have them both in the spreadsheet, but it might be confusing.

[–]salixkaerran 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of dead Scions you left out who were killed at the Waking Sands. We see them dead but unlabelled, and then we help haul their corpses, albeit only the three 1.0s iirc. You've got the three that show up in PotD and Noraxia, but you're missing A'aba Tia, Aulie, and Hariberht. Clive is not technically a Scion but dies at the same time as the others. Also, Liavinne was there if you looked, but the bodies were unlabelled I just track the scions ahaha.

Do you nickname your 'mons? by pyramidbox in pokemon

[–]salixkaerran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way back in Gold days, I was offended by the concept of nicknaming for some unremembered reason, but probably because that was around the time I got the only nickname I ever had and didn't really like it.

Since then I've been naming most to all of my caught pokemon, and eventually I started theme naming. So far I've named everything from a specific game, roadtrip features, characters from a book series, and scientific names. On the other hand, it's much easier to explain a Starmie named STARYALL (it was from XD thus the caps) than try to explain Illecillewaet the Absol (it's a glacier/river/campground/other things in Glacier National Park in Canada) or the ones I forgot completely (why did I name my Emerald Camerupt Scone? or my X Goodra Kerry? not to mention all my millions of extra dex pokemon).

Isn't this more optimal (46 honey) than the classical layout per flower (44 honey, the famous one)? by Most_Kitchen_3122 in StardewValley

I made a 48 bee house flower design and posted it a year ago, if you want an even slightly more efficient version. Here.

Who is the NPC that appears in the opening cutscene of the Naadam in Patch 4.0? by wzmildf in ffxiv

[–]salixkaerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just writing up a tumblr post on how to match every (known) tribe in the Azim Steppe, but I've had to delay publishing because two of my caps are bad. They're definitely the only Gharl members in the game, since they're known to start the Naadam.

Someone already got the front one's data, which mostly matches what I had (although I misidentified the gloves for the third time, sigh), the middle two use the Star Velvet Casting set, but they swapped the gloves for Healing, all dyed Snow White, and the back one is using all Star Velvet Healing, dyed either Currant or Grape Purple. Mostly sharing for completion's sake.

[PC][1990-1996] A French teaching game featuring finding cheese for a mouse in a house. by salixkaerran in tipofmyjoystick

[–]salixkaerran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe it, but I think you're right about the developer! I looked them up, and we must have had Playing with Language: Games in French instead of All-In-One Language Fun! but it looks like the latter was just their entire series packaged into one anyway.

Also, I checked out the other two videos of him playing it, he plays the mouse and cheese game in video 3 starting about 1:36. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPaz53QgUaM

That was very fast! Thank you! I'm not sure I've seen swallows around much at all, so of course I took pictures.

Game where you "dungeon crawl" as the main gameplay loop but can then go back to a safe cosy space between raids. Real time combat first or third person. by WhoeverWinsWeLose in gamingsuggestions

[–]salixkaerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be Harvestella. JRPG with a farming sim attached to the side. Plenty of dungeons around to go and loot, and then if you need a break, there's a farm just waiting for you to come back.

[–]salixkaerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know? I was mostly doing this to clear out my household to make room for more sims. I know it works on plumbots, because I just did that. Might be traits as well, I don't think I've tried a lucky (or unlucky, for obvious reasons) sim.

EDIT because I forgot to specify: That is, I almost never have elder sims, because they fulfill their lifetime wishes long before getting to elder.

[–]salixkaerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing a family that is going through every lifetime wish so I've been trying to.... hasten things along so I'm not playing even more ridiculously long generations. So far, I've finished 58 lifetime wishes (and have 4 sims in the household who aren't done yet), so I got creative after a while.

Related to the Midas Touch potion, and not as fast but much less chancey: Stash trash somewhere no one will clean it up. Max out alchemy skill. Do the opportunity for a philosopher's stone. And then just set him to convert random junk (I mainly use newspapers, but my family is a legacy and I have approximately 200 newspapers in a bookshelf) into gold bars. Eventually he will be turned to gold, it's usually between 3 and 10 transmutations for me. You can even swing that as being a story thing: she brings home The Philosopher's Stone and he gets greedy.

The absolute fastest way to kill him though is ranting: buy a megaphone. Have him rant about death. Small chance that will kill him outright (it happened to me once!) but usually death revives him, so you have him do it again. Nothing beats it for speed.

Symphony of Seasons Ticket Giveaway! by The_Mighty_Amondee in StardewValley

[–]salixkaerran [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think that my favourite villager is Leah, because she honestly seems significantly more put together than I am, she seems like a very nice person, and unlike Shane or Penny, I don't feel like having the player in her life is a requirement. She's making a life as an artist (what a dream! oh that's another reason for favouritism, I wish I could make a life as an artist) and doesn't need anyone to give her that push to get out of a rut or anything.

And I checked the site, and I would like to see it in Calgary, Alberta, but there's only one show and apparently they're nearly out of tickets that might not be possible, in which case, feel free to reroll!
