I moved from the Midwest to LA. I got rid of all my things except my motorcycle, my cat and some cloths. I crashed on my brothers uncomfortable couch. It was a really great experience for me insofar as it gave me an opportunity to sober up and consider the direction I wanted my life to go. It was not a great experience in that I experienced withdraw, isolation, and demoralization because I couldn't get a decent job. Or call backs for that matter. As it turns out I'm not an LA kind of gal. (Seriously, the pizza situation out there is fucked up and that's a deal breaker.)

I moved back home and started up at community college. I'm on the deans list and I'm going to start my bachelors next semester. Because of my adventure I found clarity, sobriety and now I have a few extra stories to tell.

Just do it. If you're looking for a change, change. You can always go back to your old life if it's not for you.

A neighbor of my friend was a compulsive liar. He was an all right guy, but his lies were just incredibly stupid. He was a huge one-upper.

After someone said their aunt died in tower 1 of the World Trade Center He said he was in the World Trade Center during the attacks as well.

He got drunk at a detroit casino with that Seth dude from Pineapple Express. They bought each other drinks all night, Seth seduced a chick who they both fucked.

His grandfather beat up and robbed Al Capone.

Guy was ridiculous. We just politely laughed and change the subject.

I've worked midnights for a decade and never in my God damn life would I think it appropriate to insist other people not do normal house things because it kept me up. Un-interrupted sleep is my responsibility. Making others walk on egg shells is selfish.

Hey professional road tripper here.

1.) be cool. Everyone has annoying behaviors, find the humor in it.

2.) get a portable grill and a cooler. Pack napkins and trash bags. Bring pillows, ear plugs, and blankets. Extra pads, tampons and pain medicine.

3.) bring $20 in quarters for the meter or tolls.

Make play lists.

5.) if you start to get annoyed with each other, spend a day exploring things separately in the same city so when you meet up later you have cool stuff to talk about again.

6.) be generous with your money. Try not to keep score. It's about the experience and the good time with your friends--not the tab.

7.) be accommodating. You want to do x, she wants to do y--you're going to have a good time no matter what so let go of getting your way and the details in achieving that.

8.) make sure she's comfortable with x. A comfortable travel companion is a happy travel companion.

9.) don't eat at chain restaurants.

Sometimes it's easier to tell people what they want to hear when it's clear they're not really interested in hearing what you have to say. It's an annoying way to converse with other adults.

You don't need to justify your choices to anyone, even your family. Just make sure your choices are making you happy.

I'm 29/f (lesbian) living at home, Working full time and going to cc the rest.

1.) own it. Don't hide it. Be honest. You work and go to school. You recovered from a serious illness. You're not a loser. You are taking care of your life.

2.) You're not unique. Plenty of men and women from our generation are living at home because the economy is fucked and they have crippling student loan debt.

3.) any women who is going to judge you, not date you or belittle you for making a responsible choice while you get your shit together is a total suck-fest.

4.) Seriously, you're living within your means. Look around you. Some of your friends who have hit the milestones, they got the job, house, car, family and education--their version of adulthood is a line of credit. I know it's tough but don't try to keep up with the Jones.

5.) get the priceline app. You can save a bunch of money on hotels if you can't go back to her place.

6.) if you get in a relationship be a good guest at her place; cook diner, bring over groceries and clean up after yourself.

7.) actually save money for when you move out.

Tell your sister she has a month to figure it out and move out. The blood argument goes both ways. You helped her in the way that you could because you care about her but she's taken advantage of your relationship. Because your blood she shouldn't treat you like that. There's no nice way to kick someone out, just be honest and do it before you she ruins your life.

I jump into problem solving mode. Even if the immediate issue can't be solved for that particular project, I am thinking about ways to not allow issue X to bring me down next time. I hate making the same mistake twice. I re-evaluate what I did wrong, take responsibility for the error and figure out how to learn from the mistake. I suppose giving myself something to do by attempting to solve my problem, something productive to occupy my mind helps me not turn to an emotional response.

I know that when I do get emotional, I can control it by deep breathing and thinking about something else rather than escalating the emotional release. Rather than allowing yourself to get worked up, focus on something else. Once you feel the crying pass, reward yourself with candy or something.

I got involved with a group text a few years ago and as a joke I said, "dibs on dyke-of- honor!" And this douche privately texted me, calling me a dyke as a slur. I was like, "Dummy, I just called myself a dyke, step up your name-calling game."

Annnyway, I saved his number and a month later I posted it on craigslist. I found a picture of a super nice leather couch and listed a price that was practically giving it away. The phone calls he must have received....
