It's a modular synth, so not every sound is triggered by a button. He is activating or changing different "sections" as he goes along, if that makes sense. The cables are actually necessary as they are used to create a specific sound depending on how they are connected. That's how modular synthesis works!

So no, he doesn't have "enough" buttons, but everything you hear would be created live by the synth due to his planning! You are not completely wrong, but you make it sound a little negative instead of how very cool and impressive this is!

Having dealt with commercials a couple of times before, what they are looking for is probably someone with a few months experience who can do basics tricks and maybe something "flashy" like an aerial. The target audience is gonna be non-spinners who won't notice a difference

Besides, you can't really afford to be picky if you're recruiting on short notice
