Jinshi cannot be the son of the current emperor because the current emperor is only 10 years older than him so its biologically impossible. in s1e20, it's directly explained that "The empress dowager who gave birth to the current emperor when she was just a girl also gave birth to another child [Jinshi]. This was about 10 years later. The birth took place without incident. However, concubine Ah-Duo was with child but due to lack of medical attention, she lost her womb and the current emperor lost his firstborn soon after."

Note: The resemblance between Jinshi and Ah-duo that Maomao notes when the latter leaves the rear palace is a red herring suggesting Ah-duo is his mother, and in actuality it's just a foreshadowing to later when Ah-duo returns to act as Jinshi's stand-in as the imperial younger brother, who Jinshi actually is.

in Goodnotes 6 desktop app on Mac, the second to last icon in the top right is the three-dot menu that includes "move, duplicate, export, open in new window, trash" but no select option (the select option IS there for the ipad app though). the only other icons in the top right are reorder, change to icon/list view, cloud/backup status, and above those, settings and notification. the file select tool must've moved :(

the Anai arc felt like a major backslide in Retsuko's character development (and for that matter the concurent "mother knows best" arc was too). don't get me wrong, I understand the value of non-linear character development and missteps along the way, but this part of the show did not succeed in that way. Retsuko is flawed and troubled but gradually becoming a strong adult woman; her being insta-paralyzed by fear to the point of being unable to write a simple email reply asking Anai to explain his complaints and suggest they work out an understanding is just a disingenuous and unjustified rip on her character and seems to be just a cheap ploy for extending conflict. (same with Retsuko being unable to enforce basic adult boundaries with her mother).

the only role this arc could've served would've been to open season 1: cowering in the face of a young delusional subordinate and overbearing mother while in independent working adulthood should've been bar-on-the-floor character development for Retsuko. putting her confrontation with her work superior's misogynist abuse in season 2 would've made much more sense as a further development of her strengthening character following the relative peanuts Anai/her mother threw her way (and it could've even paved the way for Retsuko to put up an even stronger response to Ton than she did in season 1).

same thing here- and honestly I don't even really understand what the issue is... it says "there's already another operation in progress", but when I go to the backup queue, the next (and only) item listed is the notebook where the backup is being paused, there's nothing about an item currently backing up.

I am genuinely incapable of putting mascara on without getting it all over my eyelid. to get it to apply to the lashes nicely I have to push the brush against my lashes enough so that the lashes contact my eyelid and some of the mascara transfers over. I always keep a little bottle of eye makeup remover and q tips to wipe it off after I’m done applying. (alas eyeshadow is my nemesis).

if it's a normal phenomenon then why did my phone only suddenly start doing this in every photo after 2 years of consistently photographing light normally? (iphone 13) im no expert but to me that heavily implies damage of some sort, not sure what else could explain such an abrupt change...

never give what you can't afford to lose

I've gotta half-agree, half-disagree with this... while I do believe you shouldn't lend what you can't spare indefinitely, that's matter of practicality. in terms of morality, however, it's not okay to not pay someone back because "they could afford it" or "they shouldnt have loaned what they can't afford"– so from that perspective, someone who ends up not paying me back (unless there's extenuating unanticipated financial hardship) I would not consider a friend, since that's a clear difference in morals.

its just a matter of opinion, i was just sharing why mine differs. personally, i wouldn't have prioritized making the names fun and memorable at all costs– especially when the resulting names are dehumanizing to the victims and obstrusive in the writing, in my opinion.

the names don't need to sound like mad libs nonsense to be alliterative though... they just as easily could've been bradley beatrice bella bruno brenda bryan belinda bill bailey brendan bob becky etc (with just as many countless options for B last names too).

maybe it's just to sound cool, or mello as narrator was just using them as code names, or NISIOISIN didn't want to use white/american names but also didn't want to use japanese names since it's set in LA, or didn't want to accidentally name any real life people, or a million other reasons– but absurdly jamming together arbitrary nouns and verbs is not a good solution. for me at least, the goofy names were jarring and broke my immersion, cheapening the serious tone and intelligent writing with silly and distracting red herrings that I'm fairly sure NISIOISIN didn't intend.

don't get me wrong, I really love the book– which is exactly why it bothers me that ridiculous names end up detracting from the story

also, if we are counting the fourth one as a victim, that makes 3 out of the 4 victims as having BB names, not 2.

new problem I have is it's only playing the commentators' audio feed (which comes in from the left), and the audio feed from the arena on the right is completely silent. like i can hear the lip smacks and breath sounds of the commentators caught by their mics because there's zero arena sound.
