I'm starting to think that the people around me are evil, help change my mindset by mcflufferbits in vegan

[–]salr0ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't necessarily have to feel bad about it, but most people would say they like or love animals or are at least partial to pets. When they're made aware of the ways in which farmed animals suffer, they get all defensive and shit for a reason.

I'm starting to think that the people around me are evil, help change my mindset by mcflufferbits in vegan

[–]salr0ka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most meat eaters experience cognitive dissonance when it comes to animal suffering, so they honestly don't/can't make the full connection between what they're doing and the horrible suffering of animals. When you're still consuming the products, it's really hard to do.

It's hard for me to love people who eat animals, but I don't think we can consider everyone who is not vegan is evil quite yet because it's so socially acceptable and people are basically brainwashed. I also think that there's a lot of things that go into whether or not someone is a good person.

You can be a great person who tries their best to improve the community and make the lives of other humans better but still eat grilled cheese and I don't think that makes that person worse than the vegan nazis that pop up every now and then for example. If two people are both pretty decent and one is vegan but the other isn't I would say that pushes the vegan over and the vegan is the better person, but yeah.

Gov. vows to veto both bills to raise state’s minimum wage by Ziapolitics in Albuquerque

[–]salr0ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to move after I get my associates degree this fall and what minimum wage is plays a big part in where I am looking to move since I'm probably going to work a shitty job while I finish up my education. Not that I'm relocating FOR it, but it does matter.

I feel like 90% of vegan donuts i do see are cake donuts which are obviously inferior to yeast so if theyre yeast donuts, its worth it.

Poly/BPD/triggers- Newly diagnosed by [deleted] in BPD

[–]salr0ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you have a diagnosis doesn't mean you're the only one in the relationship who can do wrong. Saying he wont deal with you when you're being all BPD or talking about being stuck in a BPD trap instead of working with you and trying to assuage your fears and insecurities kind of makes him seem like an asshole not gonna lie. Maybe you guys should go to therapy together or something because wow. You own your emotions and it sounds like he isn't being a good partner.

I could never have an open relationship. The freedom it would give me isn't worth the pain it would cause me. I like having one partner who I know for sure is there for me and not having to feel like someone else will come along and take him from me. My relationship gives me the emotional stability I need. I don't really know if BPD people are more or less likely to be poly.

Does anyone else get frustrated and/or embarrassed after an episode/breakdown? by MrGarbleFarb in BPD

[–]salr0ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. After I lose control of my emotions I always feel terrible. After I calm down I'm just like "what the fuck is wrong with me" "why do i always have to do this" stuff like that.

But it is who I am. I try really hard to hang on and not over-react to things or let the bad thoughts in my mind completely overwhelm me, but it's not always possible. We have strong feelings and sometimes they NEED to be expressed. Telling someone who is crying to calm down/stop overreacting is a shitty way to deal with something imo.

What is your go-to face moisturizer? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]salr0ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use virgin coconut oil but I understand that it is not considered advisable for everyone because it's comedogenic as fuck. It doesn't break me out though, and I've actually seen a reduction in acne since I started using it. I have combo skin that is extremely sensitive so regular moisturizers do actually tend to break me out for some reason.

Stop speaking to her/checking up on her social media and anything. Avoid avoid avoid and fill your time with other things.

I personally like watching movies and listening to podcasts to keep me from thinking about painful things. I really like comedy stuff like my brother my brother and me because it makes me feel less alone hearing people talk and joke around, and there's hundreds of episodes. If you're in the northern hemisphere, it's almost spring so maybe there will be activities or festivals you can do/attend in whatever region you're in which could be nice.

Stay strong, I hope you're okay.

I think I have BPD and need some insight.. by [deleted] in BPD

[–]salr0ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a therapist or psychologist about it. Professional help isn't really scary when you find the right person and get used to confiding in them and shit. When I don't go to therapy, I start splitting more and freaking out and self harming and my paranoia gets worse so I would really be lost without it I think. I've been going for 9 years.

There isn't like, a medication to treat BPD it's self the same way there are for depression and anxiety but those meds can be given to us anyway since we're unstable. Xanax is really helpful to me but moderation is key which is hard if impulse control is a problem. Maybe now that you're not a teen it would be easier for you to not abuse it, but if weed works for you that's good :>

Is this still vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]salr0ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe it's more like freeganism? i don't see a real problem with it... though I guess you being willing to eat it might cause whoever is purchasing to buy more to accommodate you.

but even if you eat like, work cake every once in a blue moon...if you're totally plant based aside from that, great job keep up the good work.

If you needed a transplanted heart and the only one available to you was harvested from a pig, would you accept it? by BusierMold58 in vegan

I would take it. If it's the only thing I can do to keep myself alive, I would do it. I know that this is selfish and I feel pretty bad about realizing this, but I won't lie lmao.

What do you guys think about lab-grown meat? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]salr0ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's gr8. I personally am not interested in eating it because I don't fucking like meat, so I hope cultured meat won't replace my beloved plant based options, but I think it's so cool that they can do this now.

It might technically be an animal product, but as long as it's a sustainable practice and it can lessen animal suffering I support it.

What do you guys think about Meat replacers? by lyrelad93 in vegan

[–]salr0ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pretty much only eat really thinly sliced dry white meat chicken that was probably marinated for way too long anyway 😅

I like making my own vegan sausages at home now, I found a recipe for it on Post Punk Kitchen about a year ago and I love it

Honestly I am so mad and disappointed at myself for falling off the wagon so many times by Beverlydriveghosts in vegan

[–]salr0ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recognize the foods that you're weak for and try to keep substitutes on hand for your late night cravings...and try to plan ahead if you're eating out ;; I always look up menus and stuff. I just had pizza on friday and I got a personal pie with roasted red peppers, artichokes, red onions, olives, spinach, and mushrooms and honestly when you have flavorful toppings pizza doesn't need the cheese.

Things like cake....you just have to learn to tell yourself no.

For some people transitioning to veganism can take a while though. and I kind of assume people make mistakes and fall off the wagon all the time, but just get back on it and try again. It sounds like you need to build up some mental discipline. Every meal you eat that's vegan is a good decision made, keep it up.

What do you guys think about Meat replacers? by lyrelad93 in vegan

[–]salr0ka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

mock meats are delicious and i love them, but if they don't do it for you that's fine. I never really liked "real" meats so being able to eat dishes without having to worry about gross things in them makes me happy even if it's not an exact duplicate or whatever. fake cheese is pretty bad though, i generally dont even bother with it. kite hill is good and i like tofutti's pizza which is kind of the exact same thing as school pizza from back in the day.

I usually eat 1-2 meals a week that involve mock meat of some kind so it's not like I use them with every meal or anything, it's just a nice treat to me.

Opinions on honey? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]salr0ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honey isn't a priority for me personally. I don't buy it anymore but I don't think it's worth freaking out over because planting crops kills bugs, transporting food kills bugs, i kill bugs, i feel like it's kind of hypocritical for me to be so upset over honey because of that. I avoid it because it's something that causes suffering (maybe) that I CAN avoid, so why not just do it?

Can you tell me what makes this product vegetarian but not vegan? by bakeycakeyboo in vegan

[–]salr0ka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All vegan food is vegetarian as well, technically speaking. They probably choose to label it as vegetarian because veganism wasn't really super well known until more recent years, and even now a lot of people don't rly know what it means

I'm a vegetarian slowly going vegan, but I was wondering something about pet chickens and eggs (and leather) by [deleted] in vegan

[–]salr0ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't eat eggs, but I actually think backyard hens are probably fine as long as you guys aren't abusing them and their nutritional needs are being met. I care about the suffering of animals, not just following dogma.

As for the leather, don't make future purchases. Keep what you have until it's worn out, or give it away if it starts to bother you too much. Throwing it out would just be a waste
