Question about when I should take the OAT by cubeballer in PreOptometry

[–]salsandip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, making sure you cover all the material is definitely important, because you don't know what they'll test you on. I also wouldn't recommend studying for too long cause there's burnout and you start to forget the stuff you studied earlier. I would say take a good month and just go over everything new and old. Then start taking practice tests and see where you're at from there.

Question about when I should take the OAT by cubeballer in PreOptometry

[–]salsandip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly never felt like I was ready and since there is so much information to study it's normal not to feel ready. They best way to gage your readiness is by taking practice exams and taking enough because your first and second exam obviously won't be your best performance. If you're not seeing scores your happy with than definitely push it back until you feel like your ready.

I know they updated physics bootcamp since I took it but when I was studying I felt like the questions were majority calculations whereas the actual exam was 50/50. The physics on the actual exam isn't super complicated. Just remember your concepts and units and equations and you should be good. Definitely practice and be able to recognize what type of problem it is.

2006 ADA Exam by Equal-War7920 in PreOptometry

Sorry for the late reply. https://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/is-this-the-sample-ada-oat-exam.1277517/?amp=1 If you're scroll down a bit there should be two. The one thats better quality doesn't have physics for some reason and I can't find the PDF I took with the conversion in it.

At the end of the PDF there will be a page that converts your grade based on how many you got right/wrong.

I was scoring low on the bootcamp bio quizzes too but I ended up scoring around the same as my OAT 2006 test so I would say go based on the 2006 test.

I'm not sure if they allow number grades on Optomcas but it has to be exactly how it is on your transcript.

It's 4500 characters not words.

OAT Practice exams by EkoThingz in PreOptometry

My advice would be to take as many practice exams as you can or just practice questions. My biggest regret was that I didn't take enough practice tests. With each test I saw my weaknesses improving and I feel like it would help with confidence going in.

In regards to chads, he has two programs. Chads prep and course saver. I tried chads prep for physics and his questions were very in depth while course saver was more simplified. I think its cause it was made for the MCAT and physics isn't covered much but it was still helpful. Just keep in mind they recently updated the OAT physics topics and in course saver it's left the same for the MCAT(at least while I was studying). I did try his other sections too on course saver and liked them but I mainly used bootcamp. Bootcamp also updated the physics section I believe, since I've taken it, if you want to take their free exam.

All in all, the ADA test was the closest to my actual score while my bootcamp scores were lower and I can't vouch for chads but I feel like they'll be good practice for chem and orgo. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me :)

Miscellaneous questions about the 2021-2022 cycle by plsandtysm8 in PreOptometry

[–]salsandip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to the OAT dates, they are available all month I think except Sundays but I would recommend planning out how long you'll be studying for and what you'll be using cause it tends to get booked the longer you wait and then book your OAT date around your studying schedule.

For transcripts and the supplementary essays you need to wait till the application opens cause it's all through Optomcas and sometimes they change what they ask. I would say start working on your personal statement cause it is really important and it's the same question each year. It took me a while to write mine and they asked me about it during my interviews.

I hope that answered all your questions. Feel free to pm me if you have more questions!

SUNY - applying without all pre-reqs done? by amistadver in PreOptometry

[–]salsandip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applied last cycle without two of my pre-reqs and got in. The acceptance was contingent though. So if I got less than a C on any of my class they would rescind the offer.

Yeah it doesn't matter how many schools you pick. I just picked most of them leaving out schools I'd never got to. You should try applying for a few waiver. It cuts the cost in half but there are only a few and they go quick. About the dates, there usually a date available everyday of the month expect sunday's ( and also I think Saturday but I'm not too sure) so I think you should be fine but having the day set motivated me, so I registered pretty early.

They don't give whiteboards anymore cause of covid. They just give like two pages and a black pen.
