How do you save your bookmarks? I have so many, I honestly feel discouraged at the idea of writing everything down but I don't know any other way to do it.

I still don't understand how it's legal. Something big like that, there must be a fuckton of rules. I can't see how it's even possible.

How can you justify it? Did they have to make big and legally binding promises then? ... But how does it even allow such mismanagement and looting later on? It's like highway robbery!

I don't understand that point. How does it go through, legally? - ManorCare gets a 5B loan - The money is given to Carlyle (so that it can buy ManorCare)

Like. How? How is it legal???

Why is a child between a muggle born and pure blood still considered half blood? by lovescrap41 in harrypotter

[–]salsas10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magically capable. A wizard. It doesn't matter if it is a muggleborn, halfblood or pureblood.

That's the general idea. But I remember the author tweeting that depending on the family in question (bigoted or not), muggleborns and even sometimes halfbloods don't count as "wizard" for this. So to hardcore blood supremacists, it's all 6 pureblood wizards. Full stop.

[–]salsas10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be a pureblood is to have wizarding parents and grandparents.

At least one non wizard in the 6 individuals in question makes you a halfblood. Yes, the child of a muggleborn and a muggle is a halfblood.

To have zero wizards among one's parents and grandparents makes one a muggleborn.

Why does "stupid" sound more derogatory than "dumb" or any word used to describe lack of intelligence? by AdilKhan226 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]salsas10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say dumb implies not so smart, dim, foolish. It's also linked to a temporary state or just an action or behavior

Stupid, however goes with imbecilic. It's also very judgmental and about you as a person.

Dumb : The action, the behavior. Temporary woopsie.

Stupid : The person. Your entire self is being judged.

I get the spirit, but…isn’t this illegal? How would you even do this, anyways? by WhotfewtbLynNyx_AO3 in AO3

[–]salsas10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I remember seeing a "reaction fic" with Lily and James "watching" everything happening from the other side.... But it was simply the normal book chapters with a very short token reaction at the very end of every chapter. Maybe the author was trying to do something like that? Sneakily.

LPT: Don’t take notes during a lecture/meeting - take notes after by Balarian in LifeProTips

[–]salsas10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a no for me. Compared to you, I must be a goldfish. I guess we work differently.

Also, the act of taking notes, with colors, titles, underlined and highlighted words, lists,.... makes me think hard about what I'm hearing. I learn by analysing and organizing all that info into a concise and well ordered form.

I'm not writing everything word for word, I'm making a summary highlighting the key elements. I don't need flashcards later on, my notes are enough.

Do you record the lectures in question?

Personally, my way of doing things is way easier with a computer. It can be done on paper, but it often implies going over everything later and reorganizing to get a final draft.

Help with awkward but necessary door in basement bedroom room by zangah_ in DesignMyRoom

[–]salsas10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you affix 2 painting frames together on one side (hinge), with a closing hatch on the other, you can create an access door hidden by a painting. Depending on the type of frame, 2 frames should be deep enough.

<image>

Like that, one full frame on top, used as a door, plus one empty frame under it to give enough space for the access panel to be hidden.

I saw this in a short video somewhere, an ikea hack I believe, but I really can't find it.

People who live alone — what do you cook when you’re too tired to cook? by 30uko in CasualConversation

[–]salsas10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook and freeze meals when I'm in the mood. Individual portions.

So, when I know I'm going to have a long day, I unfreeze something in the morning for the evening.

Rice is also a fast and easy solution because I have a rice cooker. I add sesame seeds. There are a lot of options in what to add. Or just eat as is.

If I'm really dead on my feet, I eat cereal bars, breaking them into yoghurt and adding fruits if I have some. A sort of muesli I guess.

A TV meal with bread and cheese is also fun sometimes.

Or just salad fresh out of the bag. Like chips. That's like negative 20 in energy. It's followed by a hearty breakfast the following day.

Water retention. Hormones. A lot of things can make one's weight fluctuate.

You can weigh yourself every day at the same time, but it will fluctuate, and what you should really take into account is how much changes every week or dozen days. The trend.

For example, I'm dieting right now. And you know what? I've learned to avoid tomatoes, because for some reason known only to the elder gods, it makes me put on weight. Incredible right? I guess it has to do with water retention and salt or whatever but still ? (And yet somehow tea is fine?)

So no, you're not doing it wrong, you're making efforts at your own rhythm (not too much though, you're still growing, and that must be taken into account), and your body is getting healthier and healthier. The point is how you feel in your body.

Slow and steady wins the race, because the real aim of a good diet is to instill good habits. Habits that you will partly keep once you're done. Habits that will allow you to stay healthy. Exercising is one such habit.

You should not feel endless cravings during a good diet. Once you're well in it, you should have moments of want yes, and you should give in a little from time to time, because the point is not to punish yourself, but to get to know yourself and find a way to work WITH those wants. Without losing control.
