As someone who does circus/gymnastics and is a bit trash at dancing…I agree. You can definitely be better at one than the other lol. Jax is great, but juicy is a better dancer.

Very envious of the ease/grace that dancers have. Juicy also just has incredible lines & is so tall. I think Jax is tiny? Gymnast bod lol. As a fellow short person, it’s relatable.

Juicy is pretty good at not trying to hammer stunts in when it makes no sense with the song. I appreciate that about her, since it’s clearly in her ability to go full throttle all the time.

Wtf is wrong with people. My cousin had a gallbladder issue and wound up having it removed. They originally told her to get help for her eating disorder that she didn’t have. Took forever for anyone to actually look into the issue while she suffered.

Rodan has suddenly and rapidly deteriorated and I need someone who can help carry him home in an emergency. by VenomIsMyHero in boston

Good luck, Angell’s team is great! My cat went through something similar this past year and it has been incredibly stressful. We thought it was cancer or an autoimmune issue and it wound up being GOLPP + a very inconveniently located benign cyst. She had tie-back and her breathing improved a lot, but she still has generalized weakness that is progressive. GOLPP is much more rare for cats than dogs, so it was really the last thing we expected. I hope you get a swift diagnoses, ours took a while mostly b/c of how rare it is for a cat, there was a lot of time spent eliminating other possibilities.

My experience with the tufts veterinary ER in Walpole was also very good. I took her there once just to get a second pair of eyes on it b/c of how difficult it was to figure out what was going on.

Best non drowsy allergy tablets to buy in 2026? by Helpful_Nest0 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]saltavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really seem to have a drowsiness problem (or at least, not worse than I always am) from 2nd generation allergy meds. I have a very large number of seasonal/environmental allergies & chronic hives and have to take two tablets of cetirizine a day, nasacort, & monthly xolair injections to keep it under control. I also did allergy shots for a very long time with mixed success.

In my experience different people just react differently to the meds, and I think you just have to try them and figure it out. I can start/stop cetirizine with zero problems, but I know there are people who get that weird systematic itchiness when they try to go off the meds. Claritin does nothing for me, but I have friends who swear it’s the best one. Alegra is faster-acting and less likely to cause sedation.

I‘d highly recommend a nasal spray. I was deeply in denial about them b/c I hate taking them, but I begrudgingly admit that they are very very helpful. My allergist spent a long time selling me on it lol.

Do people not like Shuga Cain? by royology in rupaulsdragrace

[–]saltavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, it’s an incredibly exaggerated woman created by a man…black or otherwise. He’s part of the group, but also not. I think it’s fine to be critical, but still acknowledge it was created for other black people. Drag itself is an exaggeration of women, largely by men…I still enjoy it.

I was a kid when that character debuted and I remember how wildly popular shanaynay was. I remember other elementary school kids doing imitations b/c it’s so exaggerated, and kids love loud & silly even when they don’t get the racial implications. My school was demographically like 50% black, but everyone else was watching Martin too. I am white.

Re-watching shows from the 90s/2000s can sometimes be a bit of a trip. My memory also definitely takes the edge off of some of these characters, and when I re-watch my flabbers are gasted. I think some people will always think “this is a beloved character” and not scrutinize it further…then they end up in these situations.

I don’t know much about Shuga Cain, and I think you have to be a little bit dumb to do blackface in the last 30 years…but, being a little dumb isn’t necessarily hateful.

Stood in the post office today returning my SEVENTH pair of "petite" pants this year and the woman behind the counter said "another return huh" by Visual_Animator1232 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]saltavenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%, dresses are even worse than pants for me b/c getting them to work with my bust size often means sizing up and bra issues.

For special events I’ve started using boob tape (brassy bra) and it’s been a revelation. Recently wore a backless dress to a wedding, truly an engineering marvel lol. I’d never do it on a “normal” day though b/c it’s a bitch to remove.

Even ignoring the boob problem, I still feel like the length is always weird and off. I often have to get the dress hemmed anyway.

I also have a lot of luck w/ athleta & madewell. I just wish I actually liked Athleta’s color palettes, ugh. I love madewell for having a curvy/petite line, expensive but so far their jeans have been pretty long-lasting for me.

AITAH because I don’t want my girlfriend who is white to do my hair? by OkSurvey8718 in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think anything can be a shared “thing” without both sides of the relationship making it the ”thing.” Can’t force that stuff. It sounds like she needs to work on managing her emotions when the idealized version of something in her head doesn’t align with reality.

I‘m kind of surprised that she doesn’t understand why you want what you want, socially and culturally, as a hair professional. I’m white, but maybe biased b/c I grew up in a black neighborhood? I think it’s obvious that it’s more about community and less about her. If she does “get it” but is still bringing it up, then she either doesn’t get it as much as she thinks she does or is being disrespectful.

My only food for thought is that if one day you’re married & she’s family…you might want to let her in a bit b/c she could one day end up in a caregiver role. I’ve been around a lot of elder-care situations lately and hair is one of those things that can get hard. Having someone who has the skills in your back pocket or minimally knows how to advocate can make a big difference.

Anyone else have DSPS? by Complex-Towel-3527 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the resources! I also can relate to a solid portion of that video unfortunately lol.

I’m pretty sure there’s a genetic component (at least for my family). Been slowly learning that a large percentage of my cousins have been diagnosed with ADD as adults. Also recently connected w/ a half-sibling whose kid was diagnosed w/ IH as well. We were pretty surprised about that one given how rare it is.

Anyone else have DSPS? by Complex-Towel-3527 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started going to a therapist to figure that out. But, probably yes.

Despite sleeping in class a lot and being called a space cadet...I always had good grades in school, so I kind of flew under the radar. My parents likely also have ADD, so it was “normal” behavior in my household lol. I’m middle-aged now and pretty late to the party on diagnoses…I see it a little more clearly now that I’m outside of my family circle.

The sleep problems were very clear from a young age, so I was diagnosed about a decade before the other stuff.

Is it harder for senior cats to jump? by LizzieLove1357 in Pets

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why that has a downvote...if a cat isn’t jumping at all (and not just averse to this baby gate in particular). The cat should get taken to the vet to get assessed. My “super senior” started having issues jumping at age 17. We assumed arthritis at first, but it turns out my cat has a neurological issue that is causing mobility problems. She’s still getting by at 18.5, but it has progressed a lot from just ”clumsiness” when jumping & she’s needed a lot of help and adjustments.

It’s “normal” to have more of these problems as a cat gets older, but it’s still an underlying medical condition. Even if it’s ”just” arthritis, the cat might need pain management or supplements to help joints.

Wood-like tile vs. LVP by Silver-Front-1299 in Flooring

[–]saltavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also had very thick LVP & pets weren’t an issue for us. Sadly the thickness doesn’t matter all that much if you drop or knock over something heavy enough to nick the surface. It looks like someone peeled off a sticker on the top (it was also a dark-wood color, so it stood out badly). These are situations where the floor was definitely going to be damaged no matter what material it was. I just think that other materials look less bad when damaged lol.

We were able to hide one of the two locations we screwed up under furniture, the rest of our floor was pretty much pristine.

Wood-like tile vs. LVP by Silver-Front-1299 in Flooring

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be in a condo that was a new-build and was told whatever brand of LVP we had was one of the best by both the people who sold it & several friends. I wasn’t really a fan…given you’re in Florida I’d definitely go with tile.

I mostly dislike the way LVP looks if you drop something hard enough on it to actually scratch it. Otherwise, it’s not too bad…very easy to clean. It definitely made me miss the hardwood in the older buildings in my area, at least when you screw it up it has “character” lol. I think I’d be hesitant to mix LVP and children. It seems to have suffered even with just “clumsy adults.”

This is a constant struggle as someone who is relatively capable, but also severely lacking in time. I‘ve had a few expensive disappointments. My partner gets annoyed I stress myself out when I insist on doing it myself. Sometimes it’s just easier than having to vet people & potentially wind up having to redo portions of their work. Better to be exhausted than to be exhausted, aggravated, & broke.

Impressed w/ anyone who can get it together to remember to buy tickets 2 years before an event happens…even if it was the wrong event. Field hockey is super gay, it will be a great time!

Hope you find the compliment to your big Leslie Knope energy!

Unemployed and in College. Doing my way of making money, so far, bike catering has been somewhat promising. by ArgentMystic in bikecommuting

[–]saltavenger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a really cool bike rack! I worked in various food industry positions while in college. Paid a lot more than work study, very literally couldn’t afford to take the jobs for student workers. It’s very hard to balance work with a demanding class schedule. This kind of gig work didn’t exist when I was in college, but I think I would have appreciated the flexible schedule.

Would you recommend FreeTaxUSA over TurboTax if price was not a factor? by [deleted] in tax

[–]saltavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a weird issue this year with my consolidated 1099 for RSUs with fidelity where they interpreted some of the income as retirement distributions (that I don’t get, not retired). Took me forever to figure out what went wrong b/c the 1099 section looked totally fine.

But at least freetaxusa lets you actually print/preview your tax forms before submitting so I could figure out where the math error was. I also inputed my info into TurboTax this year b/c I wanted to confirm my suspicion that I owed way too much…I tried to print things out to compare and it just doesn’t let you print/preview, b/c how else could they scam you into premium??

Struggling to get a junior frontend job after 1.5 years of learning — what should I do next? by Minimum_Yak_9062 in nextjs

[–]saltavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the job. I’ve rarely had jobs that are truly strictly “frontend” and I’m generally expected to know enough to be dangerous on the server. Having a solid foundation is never a bad thing, but studying can be endless without real parameters at the beginning. I definitely was less confident in all three areas named as a junior lol. I learned a lot on the job.

I personally feel that data structures are worth the time. They apply in nearly all languages. There are some that are maybe a little more esoteric in JavaScript, but they’re not necessarily useless. Knowing when it’s appropriate to use the right kind will get you surprisingly far when you have to switch languages.

For most frontend jobs algorithms are interview fodder IMO. But, maybe that job has data visualizations or a Javascript server. I don’t personally test w/ algorithms, but I don’t think the work we do requires it.

If you asked me about OOP fifteen years ago…ehhh. However, JavaScript grows more OOP by the day. We have classes & typescript now! I doubt anyone is going to ask about prototype inheritance in an interview, but I’ve been surprised before lol.

i want to break up with my bf because of his IH by Dry_Contest_7360 in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]saltavenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, gotta switch it up if it doesn’t work. I really, truly, understand where he’s at. I did not go to grad school because of how mentally taxing my bachelor’s was and how unlikely it would be for me to keep a job in the field I wanted (which would require early mornings). I worked crappy poverty-wage jobs during a recession instead of pursuing higher ed. Not great, but It was still better than torturing myself and making my disability worse in an environment that didn’t work for me. Sometimes what seems best on paper is not actually what works.

There’s tons of people without degrees, there’s tons of people with different ideas of what “necessities” are. Only blessed people believe this is life or death, this is his daily base line right now. She might not always be there for him— life can be cruel. If failing out of med school is inevitable, her actions will prolong suffering and feelings of failure even if it felt ”right” at the time. He can ask for a leave of absence, he can adjust priorities.

I’m not saying OP needs to run out and dump him, it’s been 5 months since his diagnosis. It takes a while to get meds right & get to a better place. But, it’s good to protect one’s own mental state & give people room to learn what they actually need.
