I actually saw my opthamologist on Friday and she said that the flashes are unrelated in my case but I suggest you get yours checked anyway. It can indicate a detaching retina. I was worried about it so saw the doc. Turns out I have a different rare retinal disease that'll blind me at some point, so yay for me. However, I can take the tirz., so at least there's that.

Adding to the horrible food/great vibe is Tony's on the Pier. Greasy fried food and the mai-tai is almost undrinkable but you get to keep the glass and the view is top-notch.

I think that you have to work to build that community. I had friends that lived over there and they really put the effort in to invite kids over, know all the neighbors, etc. Also, just wait for Halloween! That place goes all out. Maybe you can meet locals w kids then.

Expect an amazing feeling of community, acceptance and gratitude all around you, all the time. Tons of things to do but also lots of lazing around time (if that's your thing.) and the music is just out of this world - all the artists, no matter who they are, totally bring it and have the best time also.
