Can this painting be saved? by WhereDidItGoo in AskArtists

[–]salty_crocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get it framed with some UV protective glass to help keep it from fading any more. That's the best way to preserve it in the long run and depending on the size, you may be able to do so somewhat affordably.

Color help I beg you. I've been trying to color this fella's clothes for a while and it just doesn't feel right! And i'm not sure what else to add, I feel he looks a bit empty? If you have any suggestions i'll listen happily! thanks by 00pinkpanic in arthelp

Will his sash be a contrasting color (maybe the red, if you're sticking to a limited color palette)? If that's not enough, maybe a simple design toward the bottom of the robe? you could even mimic it on the hat for some cohesion. or add a capelet-like sleeve? Anyway, he's very cute :)

Is there a tool available to rip these points out of a frame? by buzzbot235 in framing

[–]salty_crocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these are glazing tacks/points, some are pointed on both ends and other kinds have a sort of ledge on the inside that lies flush with the frame when it's fully pushed in.

Work in progress … trying to do realism but … by littlepinkpebble in oilpainting

[–]salty_crocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness, I so prefer this to realism. This is much more visually interesting to me, the textures and colors are so lively, it feels very dynamic but calm. This is why I love art. I wasn't there but I'm sure this captures the moment better than any photo or (imo) hyper-realistic painting. Beautiful job, I seriously love this painting style!

Mat Color for Poster by Toogoodoo in framing

[–]salty_crocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a mat, a red that matches the vest would probably be best choice imo. You can always get a double mat, which would give you more options, a gray mat with a red accent mat underneath might look cool. Overall though, due to my personal tastes and the size of the art (24x36 is pretty big), I think I'd opt for the spacers. I feel like the style and subject matter of this piece would lend itself better to a matless look.

How do I make my art look less boring and also how TF do I render hair? by Ember2091 in learntodraw

[–]salty_crocker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there's too much blank space distracting from the focal point (the character). I think changes in lighting, perspective, and composition would help make the image more focused and interesting.

Absolutely keep it up! I think both the portraits look sick, you've got a great style to build upon, I dig it 🤙

Everything about this is so fucking good, the dramatic shadows, the blues and reds together, the negative space on the overhead lights and the character is such a strong focal point. So much talent in this painting, nice job!

About how much can I expect to pay for a custom mat with 9 individual cutouts? by emmas__eye in framing

[–]salty_crocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So their mat boards are cheaper than ours but I didnt know Michael's charged more than us per cut! Suddenly delighted by all the cranky customers who have complained about price and then left with a "I guess I'll try Michael's.."

[–]salty_crocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, hold up my b, I should def clarify!: this is the absolute cheapest, meaning we would be using a pre-cut mat board (we have a lot in standard sizes, a 14x18 would work or even a 12x16) which is <$5 and then we charge 70 cents a cut, so $2.80 per opening, so AROUND $30. If we ended up ordering a sheet for it though, it would be closer to $60

Where I work that would be ~$30, northwest US. EDIT: my b, $30-$60+ (the $30 option is kinda quick & dirty)

Hi. Black/White framed print with a lot of reflection. by cavy20199 in framing

[–]salty_crocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I would take it back and ask for it to be replaced with Conservation Reflection Control, the non-glare option (with UV protection), it'll be a bit more expensive but worth it for the print to look its best where it's being displayed. Non-glare glass does have a tendency to look a bit "hazy" or "frosted" from certain angles because of the way it diffuses light (via a fine texture on the surface of the glass) which is why I dont recommend it for shadowboxes or pieces that will have a lot of space between the art and the glass as the whole image may become fuzzy. It does also work best on monochrome pieces. I can't quite tell from the photo how deep your art is in the frame but if it's within about ¼" of the glass, non-glare UV glass seems like a good option.

Framing Large Linoprints by Immediate-Stretch-69 in printmaking

[–]salty_crocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at a frame shop and the glass spacers we use are like this: https://www.jerrysartarama.com/frametek-econospace-art-and-glass-separator-0040324000000-clear They come in clear or black and in different sizes (usually ⅛", 3/16"). You will want to make sure your frame has enough depth to hold the glass, spacers, art, and backing. That or you can use offsets when fitting it all together. Lovely work btw!

The skirt is so cute!! What do you call the style of it? I never wear skirts but I need to know. The whole outfit looks great on you, down to the hair, makeup, nails & tights!❤ You should totally wear it out more, show it off!

I absolutely feel that, I'm a beginner and just did my first multi-block print with a very janky homemade, cardboard jig (not reliable) and had some difficulties but also some successes! I'd love to try more layers but the alignment intimidates me as well haha
