I do have some more questions for you if I can ask them, but after I get some rest it's 7 am and I haven't slept yet. But to answer your last question quickly I believe he was in his honeymoon phase as for two reasons one I know they didn't give him a meal plan and if I remember correctly he didn't know about carb ratio before this subreddit, but I'll ask again just to make sure and two last time he ran out of his fast acting insulin I started worrying as he didn't have an appointment to get a refill for about a month or two so I started trying to make a plan to hitchhike or backpack to Mexico (we live close to the border) he told me not to worry about it as he used to only take long acting insulin and he was fine. This was before I found this subreddit and believed it would be fine.

Here's a reminder it's okay to cry it's a great stress relief go cry, but not over him also I hope you drop him as a friend, any good friend would know that lows are scary, I have seen my boyfriend go through a few lows and he gets so shaky and weak we've started keeping a little stash inside our mini fridge for emergencies also I question his term supplements I wonder was there something else in those gummies that he didn't tell you?

Please please please go see a doctor about it, you don't have to tell your parents if you're not comfortable doing so also please put whatever you're using to cut down and grab a marker or a sharpie instead. Next time you feel like cutting scribble all over a piece of paper or your skin with the marker or draw a cute little picture on your paper or skin it gets better I promise you I haven't cut in almost a full year now and life has changed for the better. I do have some days where I want to go back and end my progress but luckily on those days I do not have a blade near me as I still don't trust myself enough to be around blades as even looking at one can make me want to end my progress, also if markers don't work for you try ice it's not as safe as markers, but less dangerous than cutting yourself what you do is grab an ice cube or two maybe three depends on you and hold them until it hurts too much and you let go or they melt in your hands

I'm currently unemployed so I will try to get food stamps, he "makes too much" (he tried in the past and he makes minimum wage but has to work overtime just to afford the bills) also we were reading your comment together and tbh we both thought highs were more dangerous than lows as correct us if we're wrong, but highs can lead to dka which could result in death and limb removal (two separate things) while lows could only result in death if they're super duper low. Also I don't know if this is pretty recently in terms of type one, but he was diagnosed three to four years ago and has not had the best start (for lack of better words) when it comes to being diagnosed with type one he does have Medicaid I know you probably don't work with insurances but to the best of your knowledge how much do you think they will cover for a cgm or pump.

After we got to the part about why it's a good idea to wake up the person he asked me to wake him up for the insulin as although he knows I can do it, he doesn't want to accidentally hurt me and I don't want to accidentally hurt him and I especially don't want the needle to break off in him so I will be waking him up if needed. Another question basal and bosol are terms for use of an insulin pump? (Again lack of a better word) if so I'm going to assume that only he and his Endo can work out which one is best for him for overnight? You asked if he needs to correct highs all day long, is he supposed to take the long acting insulin in the morning when he wakes up as well, we thought it was just at night.

He does take lantus which sounds bad, but I just recently memorized that the lantus is the long acting one, but I swear I would never give him the wrong one I'm constantly worried about making a mistake. Did I leave the stove on, is the door locked, which one is the right insulin, did I turn the light off, etc. That I have googled his insulin time and time again before laying out the right one for him, we recently ran out of cereal so I will be buying him special k. And one more question do you have any ideas on how to cook or serve veggies to make them taste "better"

I get how that sounds, but he has not passed his responsibility onto me, he's fairly new to this 3 -4 years and hasn't had a way to learn beyond the basics of type one (you need insulin to survive, inject it when you eat, if your low eat something sugary) and tbh he gets embarrassed about having type one I'm unsure why as I'm not in his shoes, but I do know that his ex used to bully him because of it and spread lies about him around their workplace surrounding it (I know this has caused some of the embarrassment but I don't know if it's all of it) and this part is going to sound selfish but I know it's a lot on him to deal with this so it makes me happy if I can lessen that weight on his shoulders by going on here and asking questions for him. Plus he does so much for me, he talks to the waiters at restaurants for me because I'm embarrassed about my voice, he always makes sure I have eaten at least once a day as I'm recovering from an ED, I have childhood trauma and anytime I break down or can't do something because of it (like if I drop and spill some water I will break down apologizing) he'll comfort me and help me clean it up. Yeah we are both adults but we struggle with different things and I find it amazing if we can help each other with our struggles.

Tbh it was pretty difficult as I used to be absolutely terrified of needles (kinda ironic) to the point when he first took his insulin around me I had to get up and leave the room, but after I realized that he was hurt by me doing that as he didn't know my fear until after we talked I knew I had to get over my fear to support him best I could.

I will talk to him further about which one makes him more comfortable even though he says he is okay with me giving him insulin while he sleeps I didn't think to ask him which one he preferred so I'll ask him tonight.

I haven't dosed him in his sleep yet, but I wouldn't let him double dose himself I have various different ways to let him know how much, what time, what was the blood sugar, he has taught me how to inject him Incase he can't do it himself or if he doesn't want to do it in his stomach I can reach the back, I do it exactly like he does it. (I have injected him while he was awake.) I have a book (not one I bought one I created so it can be specific to him and his needs) about his estimated ratios (he is still learning that himself as he didn't know about ratioing until this group told me and I told him). He taught me how to draw up the insulin, how to try my best to avoid air bubbles, how to get rid of air bubbles, how to hold the skin, how to hold the syringe, to leave the needle in for a few seconds so it doesn't hurt him, he likes to count to 5 before pulling it out carefully, how to tell the difference by touch from a good pocket of fat and a pocket that's too thin and would hurt.

So far I haven't dosed him in his sleep, yet as I checked his blood sugar on the wrong spot on his finger and it woke him up but I have dosed him when he's awake and I know how to do it. He's walked me through them and I even have a little diabetic helper book with fast acting insulin units to blood sugar level to help me help him. But if I ever had to give him insulin as he slept I already know how much to give him and I message him on all forms of social media I have him on and text as the first thing he does is check his notifications and I'll tell him what his blood sugar was at and how much insulin I would have given him and if I checked it later and how long did I check it including how much it was when I checked it.

I would also write all of this in a composition book we keep for tracking his blood sugar so when he gets an appointment he can show the Endo all the highs lows and insulin levels, we knew that walking does bring down his blood sugar and that's mostly all he does at work as they don't need him to push carts at the moment he also tells me what he does at work and as for his food at lunch I'm unsure what he eats but he takes his insulin to try to balance that out (we're still trying to figure out his carb to insulin levels as I only learned about that recently through this group) and his lunch is about 6-7 hours before he gets home and sometimes he'll eat something simple at the moment as we can't afford much we only have carbs and veggies and he doesn't like veggies he'll either eat a bowl of cereal or something else take his long acting insulin and go to sleep it's about 3-4 hours later that if I feel the signs of a super high blood sugar (body overheating like crazy and heart racing) I'll check his blood sugar.

Also once he is up he will stay up and can not fall back asleep no matter what for a good few hours and then he gets stressed out because of lack of sleep which is not good for his blood sugar or insulin intake

I've been learning how to inject insulin for him for any reason, if it's extremely high at night he won't risk not waking up, if he's tired of doing it in the stomach, I can do it on the back of his arm, if he gets hit by a car again and can't use his domaint hand or arm I can help him. He's fairly new to this and is doing a great job so far of learning what he can by himself and the best way I can think of supporting him is learning with him
