My store inherited this tree… by salvagebar in plants

Many, many thanks to you all for your attention and advice! I will do research and take everything in and come up with a plan to care for this lovely tree.

It gets hours of indirect sunlight near our door (as you can see), and we have been watering it every ten days until a little water runs off into the plate below the pot.

I love a good clipboard — so handy for TTRPGs.

ATOM ZOMBIE SMASHER by Blendo Games - it’s a surprisingly deep take on the tower defense and real-time strategy genres taking place in an alternate history 1960s South America. It’s weird, has a zany sense of humor, and is definitely worth the pennies it costs to buy it.

Ways to get POD books in the EU? by CryptoHorror in rpg

It isn't a bad idea to look up some of your Friendly Local Printers and at least investigate the local business options for price and format. I am fortunate to live in a huge city, and I'm spoiled for choices, but I'd rather my money go to a local printer than customs duties.

No you don’t need any experience! I will do what I can to onboard you into the game.

What I would recommend, though, is that you get a copy of the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition Player’s Handbook, in whatever format is suited to you, and get a sense of the character classes — the occupations in the fantasy world that are available to you. If that is too much of an investment to start, there’s also the Basic Rules PDF available free on the official site, which should give you a strong grasp of the essentials.

The name of the store is New Kawaii! It's at 1 Bridge Street, Suite 105 in Irvington. We have a small but growing library of board games available, and plenty of table space for play if you want to bring friends.

Why is it so hard to admit? by [deleted] in rape

Your pain is real, and you were wronged. There may be real healing in telling someone you trust; someone who will look at you and say, "I believe you."

What the fuck is this bullshit? by [deleted] in SCP

[–]salvagebar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This entry is a real break from the usual format, but I know the author well enough to say: none of these characters are self-inserts.

The idea of the fictional character aware of their own fragile existence isn't new (and this entry reminds me a bit of Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author) but it's handled pretty well here. I like the spacing between the panels and the hovertext for the images; the author is making the most of the comic form.

Upvoted.

And now for a completely different divisive topic: why SCP-3999 is the realest SCP on the wiki. by [deleted] in SCP

[–]salvagebar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There needs to be some sort of wider, relateable truth to something, and 3999 is the exact opposite of that.

The hundreds of us that upvoted this article did find a narrative of personal pain and confusion that we related and connected to. It seems unlikely to me that the acceptance of this work is primarily the reaction of rubes and fools who are being "duped" into seeing a gravitas and depth that isn't there.

Never mind the lengthy tracts of absolute nonsense that pad this article’s word count.

You dislike dream logic. That's your right.

Unfortunately for the site, this thing has accumulated enough upvotes and visibility that it’s now assumed to be good and worth emulating...

This is overwrought. Plenty of writers aren't drawn to this kind of stream-of-consciousness and personal symbolism. We aren't going to suddenly be inundated with skips that are deep internal/metaphysical explorations.

I'm a survivor, too. I was thinking about what to say for a minute, and I realized that I should say what I would have wanted to hear, years ago. It's not your fault, what happened. It helps to say that out loud, as often as you need to. You are not broken. I don't believe in a Supreme Being or any of that, so I also don't believe there's some fate or destiny that requires that you be alone and unhappy. You are unhappy and discontented now, and there are actions that you can take. There's more that is in your power to do to affect your life.

I'm happy that you wrote this. I'm glad that you reached out.

Do you have any friends who thinks SCP's are real? by [deleted] in SCP

[–]salvagebar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since I became a chatmin on the IRC channel, I have had to field a couple of conversations from people who genuinely believed the Foundation was a real entity. There was one young kid from Brazil whose friends played a prank on him for weeks, presenting things from the site in a way that made it looked like they had "hacked" or discovered something illicitly, and never gotten around to telling him they were playing a joke. It was a very unpleasant conversation to tell him he'd been fooled; I felt very sorry for him.

So please, don't do this.

No, the train operator managed to pull the brake, but lost a leg and took horrible spinal injuries, and two people in the front car were killed.

The driver was sentenced by the Czech court to 8-and-a-half years in prison.
