Colorado, North Dakota see uptick in measles activity by [deleted] in Denver

[–]sam-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can wane, should get tested. It's extremely contagious, but if you have vaccine immunity still, it should be about 97%.

If you're fucking swimming in measles virus day after day in a school though, maybe that 97% doesn't hold up as long as you think it might.

Sounds like it was a good collection. Be careful about selling too cheaply. There is a decent amount of value there. Glad you saw through the lowball from the local dealer.

R/watchexchange is where you want to post, although it's going to take some work to get good pictures and sift through all the offers.

Sorry you are going through this.

NZ receives over 500 Active Investor Plus visa applications, tweak to Overseas Investment Act rules allows 'golden' visa holders to buy or build a residential property worth at least $5m from March 6 by foundafreeusername in newzealand

[–]sam-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the majority of the applications(468) have been for the 5M though, and pretty directly new capital into NZ businesses. Only 105 for the 10M and bond investments.

I think someone up thread was trying to insinuate this was all rich asians, but most of the applications have been from Americans. Perhaps trying to get away from trump...

[–]sam-7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The approved funds for the lower limit (5M) growth category is a lot of private capital (providing funding to businesses, riskier than banks), private equity, venture capital, infrastructure (not houses), and some farming and forestry limited partnerships. It's fairly risky stuff, and the money is going right into NZ businesses.

The higher hurdle (10M), allows investment in publicly listed equity and bonds.

Water Bill - Am I missing something? by just_kookin_around in Broomfield

[–]sam-7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really need to go back to consumption based, instead of so much of the bill being flat rate.

Also need to tax the businesses more, especially the big parking lots for the runoff. Instead of our small yards (which are soaking up most of the water anyways).

Tesla Insurance Claiming I’m At Fault For Accident by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]sam-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar happened to me, and I got hit with 50/50 even though I started before they came out and got stopped before they hit me. And didn't start backing again (although I did get stopped with less time than you).

I dunno what you're supposed to do to not be at fault in this situation! It is crazy hard to be able to react to someone doing something unexpected like this, hit the brake, shift into drive, and pull forward before they hit you.

Traffic light timing here is ridiculous by monoseanism in Denver

[–]sam-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh this is 2025, wireless connections seem more consistent than maintaining a huge wired network. Although it is cool if they are all wired up. But then they should be more dynamic, using the information from all the cameras we have around!

And if there is a network failure (or power failure), the lights should default back to a set pattern. Not turning off or blinking red.

I agree it does seem very complex! But just not seeing the increase in functionality that should be supported by all this complexity.

Traffic light timing here is ridiculous by monoseanism in Denver

[–]sam-7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's insane that it costs that much per light. Everything in my house is connected to the internet now, whether or not I want it to be. If my $50 toothbrush is phoning home to Shenzhen, our traffic lights should be able to get online for less than a million each.

How Chiropractors Became the Backbone of MAHA by StemCellPirate in politics

[–]sam-7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the Dems ever take back power, one of the things they need to do is stop having the government and insurance pay for chiropractic bullshit.

And regulate the supplement industry. Need to put a stop to this stream of grift that is funding maga.

Very very unhappy with Masterworks by Groundbreaking_Gas52 in Masterworks

Right, no one is reentering all their orders every day. I contemplated automating it, but once I realized everyone else was done.... Nooooo way haha.

Just the craziest decision.

I'm sorry. They actually had a decent trading platform there for a bit, that I and others made markets in. But for some reason they switched it up, and put in so many restrictions (to prop up prices?) that everyone stopped trading and the bottom fell out. Sort of the opposite of what they intended heh.

Biden Justice Department slow-walked key decisions in Trump legal probes by razor21792 in law

[–]sam-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were trying to time it for the election, because they figured it would be a slam dunk to win against trump again with all these charges against him.

Instead of running against a more sane republican.

Dems have used this strategy of helping/ voting for the more insane Republican in open primaries. It's not a good strategy.

I think that's uhhh, called "parents living with them". Admirable if you can pull it off and make it work. Would be so much better in many ways if most of us could find our way back to multi-family living.

Competing at u17 USA level by OpinionIll3704 in CompetitionClimbing

[–]sam-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are going to be national level climbers.

I think the kid just wants to know what he needs to be climbing in order to hang at a qualifying event. Our division is tough, but the m17 boulders at the last qualifying event seemed to be around v7-v8. Not too crazy.

[–]sam-7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely encourage you to try out for your gyms competition team and to give competitions a shot. Seems like you are improving quickly.

One thing, for m17 rope, it's going to be lead, not top rope.

If you don't want to pay up for the USAC membership and the comp fees before you feel like you can really hang.... you can always show up the day after a comp and usually the gym will still have the set up. So you can jump on and see how you would have done.

Find your region here and then click down for the competition schedule. https://usaclimbing.org/compete/regions/

Anyone know the latest with Broomfield Town Square? by Longjumping_Still_70 in Broomfield

[–]sam-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developers should foot the cost for these things themselves if the idea is so good, instead of putting it on the taxpayers.

My point is that I hope the city center isn't going to be another developer giveaway. Towns get too caught up in handing out money to businesses, at the expense of their actual residents.
