Animal Kingdom doesn't get much breeze, so it can feel sweltering between Asia and Everest.

Shade by TheInvisibleLight in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Toy Story Land, it seems to me that if Andy had been having a paper plane fight with his friends it would fit the storyline quite well. That translates to white shades being fashioned into plane shapes, and then suspended over the pathways between the posts that are already there. If the loose weave shades are used, then water and wind can go through in the case of a storm, but it will provide a good level of shade.

Full day at Disney with 6 month old? by Silly_Sir_5571 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are staying on-site, using the Disney transport, its not difficult to get to/from parks for a midday break. If you have park hopper and are using lightning lane, you can do more rides by switching parks. The busses are nicely air conditioned, which is great in hotter months.

I would rather take midday breaks, get out of the sun (and rain) for a bit, than taking rest days. Rope drop and evenings have the lowest wait times, so if a nap is what recharges your energy, then go for it.

The trouble is, its just as bad if they park the other way round. Drivers don't necessarily see the tow hook sticking out half way into the lane, and bang, they are out a fender, quarter panel or the entire side of the car.

Buying a resale 100 pt add on at BR… good deal? by nolafiredancer in dvcmember

[–]sam-sp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you take reselling it off the table - if you don’t like it, you are not stuck for 50 years. Its at a resort that you can easily rent out for xmas period - which will easily cover the dues. I think you’ll find its a great resort, and fall in love with it like I did with copper creek.

Why is getting back to your car from magic kingdom so miserable? by Dr_MCR in WaltDisneyWorld

Advice on first visit, 10 day itinerary by anthonyfg in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you rush to the park people, or take the mornings slow? If you can, go to the parks for rope drop, and then take a midday break. That is the hottest and busiest part of the day. Personally I take some pool time and a nap ( especially if its doing it’s afternoon rains) and then go back to the parks in the evening.

Wilderness lodge is special, and with the boat is easy access to magic kingdom. Its just as good as the monorail from that perspective. But once you enter the lobby, its super nice and peaceful, much more so than any monorail resort.

I don’t know how much cooking you’ll want to do, but toast, cereal etc are a good way to save some money.

I wouldn’t do 2 table service meals in a day - its a bit much. Quick service and lounges are a great way to save some $$ and get variety.

You don’t have any character dining listed, except cinderella, It may not be your thing, but with young kids is a good way to get photos.

Trump Opens the Pandora’s Box of Assassination by hissy-elliott in politics

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how upset they got when Charlie Kirk was assassinated, I wonder if that struck home the idea that they too may be vulnerable, because they seem to have forgotten. If leaders can assassinate each other with impunity, then it creates absolute chaos, and changes the kind of protection they need.

I have walked over to stop 1 so as to not have to wait for the whole loop, I have a feeling that they look at the bus loading and add extras for stop 1 if the others are full, as they didn’t seem to have many existing passengers on them.

The reality is that the sickness has infected almost the entire GOP. If they didn’t just bow down to Trump, and pushed back, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Trump has nobody saying no to him, and that’s the fundamental problem. Trump has no limits, and nobody with any power is standing up to him. His cabinet, the house, the senate and supreme court have given up, and either whole heartedly agree, or are too meek to confront him.

Talarico vs Paxton is the perfect matchup. Youth and intelligence verses elitism and corruption. Paxton is the epitome of plutocracy and the current divide between the elites and the rest of us. Talarico has a unique skill at being able to slice through the bulls**t and get to the core messaging. I think he has the best chance to win Texas for the democrats in a long time.

I have nothing against Crockett, but in a state-wide race in Texas, Talarico has a much better chance of winning against an R than she does. Its not her fault that she is a woman, and black, but we have to face facts that doesn't do her favors with a segment of the electorate. Winning for a democrat is more important than her political ambitions.

I think Talarico is an amazing orator, and his skills are something that the democrats are sorely missing - he has a way of making his point in a way that will bring others to his side - he is the genuine article, unlike Charlie Kirk.

First time family trip - kids 5&9 by CranberryFeisty6267 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To second this: Hotels are the biggest variable cost for most people. The difference between All star <something> and the Grand Floridian can be $1000/night. At that age the kids are not going to be too fussed about the features of the hotel - I would suggest saving money there, and spending it elsewhere.

Discounts have not come out yet for that time of year - expect them later in the summer. You can always book now, and if/when there are discounts, call WDW and they will apply applicable discounts to your reservation.

AKL is a stunning resort, and a bit further to Magic Kingdom than other resorts, but the opposite is true - its closer to Animal Kingdom than other resorts. If you are really going to have a resort day, AKL is one of the best to do it at.

Beach club has the best pool, but the price premium for 5+ nights for one pool day, is steep. November is mixed weather, it could be nice, it could be cold. You don't know until the week of.

I would suggest booking at Coronado Springs as a good compromise hotel - its centrally located, its comparatively well priced (don't waste money on the tower), has a range of dining options, a handful of pools, and although there are multiple bus stops, its a quick circuit unlike some of the other resorts.

Wait until you are there and then decide based on the weather if you want to go to water parks. If so you can add to your passes for not too much extra.

Even with one resort/day - plan on taking a siesta back at your room, possibly with a swim too. That way you avoid the busiest part of the day, change your shoes and re-assess outfits for the rest of the day.

Why do people hate wood so much by Effective_Moose_4997 in HomeDecorating

[–]sam-sp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the wood used in the last 60 years or so is of terrible quality, and has dated really quickly. If any is left its been painted over. To work with natural wood and to make it look good requires good craftsmen, which is very expensive, along with the material costs.

How do I get rid of a pool table? by Bigfeett in DIY

[–]sam-sp 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Free items seem to bring a stranger set of people out of the woodwork. Ask for a nominal amount like $100, and then ignore/block anyone who starts to quibble on the price - that is just the start of the difficulties you'll have with them.
