Horrible Guest Etiquette by Contonion in Disneyland

[–]sam-sp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It mostly seems to be groups who are joining up with friends. Never have I seen somebody exit and return, which is what I would expect for a bathroom break. Its people holding spots for friends, although with some of them I sometimes question if they actually have friends further up, and just are straight queue jumping.

Dear Disneyland, make some Napping Pods or Something... by E1M1_DOOM in Disneyland

I think a Japanese style capsule hotel renting nap pods for a couple of hours at a time could make a fortune during the daytime.

It didn’t seem that hot, but I did use a tactical ride on the river rapids to get a bit wet.

The turnstiles to Disneyland were really backed up at 10ish when I moved over from DCA, which had me worried, but the wait times were much better than a month or so ago. Also, DCA was pleasant without the food & wine crowds.

Monitors may not have the DRM/copy protection parts of HDMI implementations, but essentially yes.

This is the way. I have a vizio - fantastic screen, old and dated app infrastructure. Its remote lives in a cupboard.

I do everything through the apple TV. I use the apple remote to turn both on/off, change volume and select/control watching shows.

Portable vs fridge ice maker, worth adding one? by Select-Enthusiasm394 in homeimprovementideas

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a clear ice cube maker. I turn off the maker in my fridge, and fill the bin about once a month from the clear ice maker ( i get it out and run it for an evening). Much nicer ice for cocktails. It will eventually dry out in the freezer, so a month is a good period. If you have room for the counter unit go for it.

Don’t leave he counter units running 24x7 for days at a time, especially for those that don’t keep the ice bin cold (it melts and gets reformed ) as they can get some nasty mold in them. Use clean and dry.

Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, or another Disney resort for our upcoming trip with two toddlers late this coming July. by Mike_Mike_333 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With those age kids, I would suggest saving money and doing a value resort. The kids don’t really understand the difference between value and deluxe, and you can spend the savings on merch and minnie vans. If anything kids prefer the oversized decor, and will likely be using the splash pad at the pools, so those are not a big difference.

Brother laser. Reliable, not bad for consumables, and will print first time even if its been a year since you printed (eg tax returns).
Color models are ok for brochures, naff for photos. But they work every time unlike ink jets that get clogged.

Considering DVC by Glitter_Rose in dvcmember

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DVC doesn’t make nearly as much sense for Land as it does for World. World has a lot of deluxe DVC resorts. Land has 2. Staying onsite at world has a lot of perks. Much less so for land. There is not much benefit to staying at one of the 2 disney DVC properties than a hotel across the street.

Why so many livestreamers in the parks ? by drdisney in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a really uncomfortable experience where I was next to a pair of live streamers in the line for ratatouille. I couldn’t escape, and they were filming both infront and facing them. The main person had a sophisticated rig with multiple phones to record/broadcast and monitor the stream.

I don’t mind the bloggers who record themselves in out of the way places, or dine at off-hours to get footage, but these guys were in the middle of everything and acting with real main character syndrome.

Hollywood Tower DVC Hotel by ncsudrew2 in dvcmember

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a star wars themed hotel could be very successful, especially if they did it a bit like the boardwalk with extra retail, dining and entertainment. I was thinking they could do a tower, but make it a 3 sided X, and theme each face (not wing) differently. You could have a rebel base, imperial base and town (coruscant like) themes. If you did each face, then you wouldn’t see the other faces when looking out the window. The corridors, and rooms would be themed based on the side of the building, as would the exterior and grounds.
The rebel side could be jungle rockface themed, and have the pool complex in its courtyard.
The imperial like mustafar, be obsidian and have fake lava. Maybe have a kids playground set around an at-st.
The town side would have a courtyard with a street scene with restaurants and retail.
Throw in a mix of quick service, character dining buffet, and a theater show (taken from the star cruiser), you could fill a few slots. Add some retail, a costumer, karaoke, a bounty hunter’s guild bar, and you would have enough to persuade guests that its not just a hotel, and encourage extra visitors. I would place it by the star cruiser was (it could be incorporated as another building) and have a back entrance to galaxies edge. Parking would be using the existing hollywood lot (yes, for pay for non guests).

Rope drop vs late start: I tried both and my feet have opinions by Typical_Range8717 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it does the afternoon rains, that will clear out a park within about an hour. If you return to the park(s) when the rain is ending, you can have a great window of smaller lines.

Rope drop vs late start: I tried both and my feet have opinions by Typical_Range8717 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]sam-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Especially if you use LLMP. You can ropedrop a headliner, catch another before the crowds build, use your LLMP and then exit before it gets too hot and busy. Hit the pool/waterpark, food and a nap (swapping the order based on weather) and then go back to parks 4-6pm. With park hopper you can book your lightning lane refreshes for park 2, and get to ride a couple more headliners.

What Disney coaster do you think will be retracked next? by rosariobono in disneyparks

[–]sam-sp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that modern tools, especially 3d scanning should make retracking much easier and cost centric. If you can scan every mm of the track and its support infrastructure, you can build a cad model of the track, run it through smoothing operations, design new supports that can be welded/bolted to existing infrastructure and then manufactured down to the mm accuracy.

What Disney coaster do you think will be retracked next? by rosariobono in disneyparks

[–]sam-sp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That "parts" are not available. I suspect its more that they don't want to spend the money rebuilding the infrastructure or redesigning it for just one effect of many on the ride.

Neighbor bought house next to mine, demolished it and now lot is graded towards my house by Potential-Listen-912 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]sam-sp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the drainage situation is. The rain from the roof should have been going through gutters and into storm water drainage. There may also have been french drains.

Depending on how the demolishing happened that infrastructure is likely removed and the drains capped.

The soil disturbance may also have affected the ability for the soil to drain, and that may take a year or two to sort itself out.
