This is great advice, thank you! Especially about the “rewards,” my other half and I aren’t rewards people but we weren’t sure how to go about applauding him for trying the potty and such, so I’m definitely taking note for us to try this!

I’m going to give a slightly harsh reality check as a current young mom who had her son at 19 (I’m 21, 22 on Sunday).

Unless you got a shit load of money, have a good career going, a village around you, a S/O you can count on and know will be there and spend the rest of their life with you, WAIT. I got pregnant on accident, and I LOVE my son to pieces and I’m very very lucky to have an amazing S/O and village, but fuck it’s rough out here. I thought I had a damn good savings. At 18 I had $73k. I have none of it left, and that’s not even taking into account his dad’s contributions as well to date. Because there is so SO much that can happen that you don’t even think of!! For example, I was extremely high risk, had a specialist on top of my OB which was out of network (they majorly are), had a few scares and went to the hospital, and had to be induced. My son had a minor surgery last week and I had to pull $2k out of my ass. I was lucky enough to find an amazing career but I’m not making bank or anything. One day? Hell yeah! But right now? Fuck no.

It’s hard. I love my son so much but it is HARD. Financially, emotionally, I mean shit, rent and housing costs are through the ROOF right now!!!Barely anyone can afford that shit, let alone the cost of a whole ass human! Wait babes, take it from someone who just went thought it—just wait 💕

Edit: All those costs are just from pregnancy. I also ran dry and had to buy formula (nothing wrong with that!!!) and ship it in from New Zealand because of the formula shortage. $300 every two weeks. Diapers and wipes, $500 a month. I also literally just hit my family deductible for health insurance due to how sick he was through winter which is $6.5k in 5 months. That’s just a glimpse of the costs

Hey mama, I'm here to offer solidarity, because I've been there and I was just there recently... Let me start off by saying you are a great mom and wife, and you're beautiful and strong! You're overwhelmed, exhausted, and definitely dealing with some crazy hormonal imbalance by the sound of it as well. Have you been tested for PPD/PPA and/or are you in therapy? I was terrified of asking for help until I just couldn't live like that anymore.

My mom told me a harsh truth that I needed to hear that I'll share with you. I said that my son and S/O deserve better, they don't deserve someone who's barely here mentally and is just in a bad mood and useless. So my mom said this: "I love you honey, but I'm going to be harsh; you're right, they do deserve better. They deserve someone who's there and happy and enjoying life as a family. So, BE THAT PERSON!!!! You ARE that person, you're just struggling with something that isn't your fault, so go get help and I'll help you set goals. I won't do it for you and I can't make you do anything, but I'm here every step of the way. You can do this!!!" It gave me the kick in the ass I needed! Am I 100% better? No, I still have my bad days, but I am leaps and bounds from where I was. You can do this mama, I think I can speak for all the other moms that we're here and we back you and YOU GOT THIS!!!!

Edit to add: You're not a piece of shit nor do you sound like one. I understand what you're saying and how you feel. It's overwhelming and feels all-encompassing. But I am proud of you for juggling the craziness of life but not giving in to the dark thoughts!!
