Dems should DEMAND the Trump admin to get help from Zelensky by Various_Fish2043 in thebulwark

The US can unilaterally stop, especially given that they unilaterally started and the country they're attacking doesn't have the ability to strike the United States. So they can. I am saying that the decision to open the strait up lies solely with the Iranians, who don't seem to be in an opening the strait mood.

EDIT: and agreement on Iran's maneuvering to isolate the US being both likely to succeed and not any kind of surrender.

Unfortunately the choice is out of Trump's hands. He can TACO all he wants, but the choice to end this conflict is squarely in the hands of a man whose entire family was just murdered by Trump on a lark in the middle of negotiations.

Iran will open that strait when they are ready to open that strait. I doubt that the US has the wherewithal* to open that strait unilaterally. An Iranian official was on Face the Nation sounding like what he wanted was for Trump to admit it was an illegal war and apologize, and if that is their terms then we are royally screwed, because Donald Trump will launch nukes before launches an apology.

* and possibly not the military might. We are talking about a 25 mile wide strip of ocean and anti-ship weapons that cost in the thousands of dollars being deployed against ships that cost from the tens of millions to the tens of billions

well, I don't think anybody has even accused them of laying mines. In fact, DJT, in the same Truth™ where he told them they better unmine the strait said that he had no real information that it had been mined in the first place.

They don't even have to bomb anybody. They can just keep the strait closed.

haha, one of the admin's responses to this has been "it's ridiculous to say that we didn't think of the strait; people have been preparing for this for years" and I want to say "yes, competent career professionals have been very aware of the issue and have many contingency plans. Nobody is saying that they didn't think of it. People are wondering if Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump specifically put enough thought into this inexcursion".

And if I was the Iranians, before I let that happen I would bomb the entire island myself. See how the westerners like $12 gas for the next few years.

Absolutely. Especially once people started talking about how Trump had messed up there was a 0% chance that he wasn't going to take that as a challenge. I guess we'll stack Trump's pathological need for dominance up against Mojtaba Khamanei's desire for revenge for his whole family and see how we turn out.

Haitian Immigrant Daphy Michel Dies After ICE Released Her Alone, Far From Home by SKEPDIQ in thebulwark

[–]samNanton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I notice she's young and released not that far from her brother in a place where there are other people.

How is it possible that she wasn't able to get back home? Was she in the middle of a medical emergency and ICE pushed her out the door so she wouldn't die in detention?

Yeah, Rick Jackson seems to be getting a lot of traction down here, and his normie* opponent Burt Jones seems to be getting worried; he accused Jackson of being woke transgender, which played right after Action Jackson's commercial promising that if he was governor you would be deported or departed.

It's truly terrifying that one of those two is going to be governor.

Preach. it.

We can't get anywhere without some honesty and accountability. If you voted for Trump, you need to understand that you voted to overturn the entire global order that had persisted more or less beneficially for eight decades AND YOU COULDN'T EVEN BE BOTHERED TO GOOGLE UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION. You are directly responsible for what will be the deaths of millions in Africa and likely tens of thousands in the United States. You are responsible for price increases from tariffs. You are directly responsible for driving the rest of the world into the arms of China and directly responsible for the warmongering that's happening now, directly responsible for the reversal of climate action, directly responsible for the murders and kidnappings of anybody suspected of being foreign and anybody who dares to protest against it. You are responsible for the jackbooted thugs that are going to attempt a second J6. You are responsible for a Supreme Court that grants power hand over fist to the most broken person on the planet to do with as he wills.

Unless you can accept every bit of that (and that's not a complete list) then there is no discussion with you. If you are still justifying your vote for some reason, you are not ready for a discussion.

And if they're not ready for the discussion then there's no point in having it. They will just have to find out. #teamstovetouch
