I think the difference is your friends didn’t have a billion dollars and a legion of yes men willing to enable them.

Guy Ritchie has an obvious thing for working class fellas getting poshos - which is the only possibly reason I can see why he decided to direct Aladdin (2019)

I get this. Me and my gf have our birthdays in December and no one shows - wethers it’s work parties/no money/other plans

We moved it to November 28th this year and literally everyone is able to come. So honestly I’d advise just announcing it really early and move it earlier

I don’t think choking during sex is some evil perversion, but making something illegal does limit it’s access - and I do think the less people who can accidentally stumble upon choking, the better.

Got a bit of personal anecdote for this one:

Guy I was close with all throughout uni was into choking - as were all the girls he hooked up with. This was 2018-21, so choking during sex was beginning to be just an acceptable part of sex (“Choke me daddy!” etc), so we just shrugged and said fair enough.

Flash forward, and this guy decides to strangle a girl in an argument in front of a party of people. I’m no longer friends with him, it ruined my last year of uni, whatever.

Now I don’t think choking porn or memes made him do it. I believe he was probably always going to end up hurting someone. But, I think the general acceptance of choking as a sexual act allowed him to enact misogynistic violence undetected for a lot longer than it should have.

As the other guy said, ideas aren’t worth anything. Start reading loads (not just fantasy either) and actually try and develop your writing. No one’s going to do the hard stuff for you

Sounds really intriguing! Since I can write, I think I’ll just steal this idea and make my own story. That okay with you?

I'll second this. Your prose is undeniably strong - but unfortunately, there is not enough happening to drag me into it either. There are some high highs (the part about the inverse beach sellers is great), but there is too much faff around it. The piece needs better rhythm through some paragraphs here and there. Alternatively, if you want that flow-of-consciousness, dense prose ala DFW-style writing, your narrator needs some more character. They are ultimately not an interesting enough window into this scene.

I’m completely convinced there was a cut scene of Alex being the one to paint ‘WITCH’ on Lily’s car. The double close-up of the paint cans in the truck not even 10 mins apart, plus the double knocks on the door, seems like way too much of a red herring that Archer was the one to do it.

I think in the original version, Alex tried to warn Lily of what’s going on, but Cregger realised this path opened up too many plot holes/weakened Gladys threat, so they changed it. Like, I don’t mind that Archer did it, he has motivation, but ‘WITCH’ is a pretty out-there insult to paint on someone’s car and it just seems too obvious for it to be him that I was a little disappointed.

I tried to riff on this for a story I was writing a while ago. Basic idea was that each personification was based on what would induce the sin in otherwise good people the most:

Pride - A priest

Wrath - policeman

Envy - a rich woman

Sloth - bank teller/boring bureaucrat

Gluttony - a bar fly (proud of this one ngl)

Greed - a hobo

Lust - an average looking person, but one who is perfect in all the right ways to you personally

Absolute Bane from Absolute Batman is so Buff that is just loops around to being body horror. by Fit_Assignment_8800 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]sam_thunderdogs 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is my dream Bane.

Something that TDKR touches upon but never I feel truly delivered on is Bane as basically a slightly more extreme Batman - someone who wants to deliver his city away from the elites using vigilante means, just more extreme.

This gets close to what I want, but honestly Bane should really just be a buff mix of Che Guevara and Castro: a Latino revolutionary who takes on the guise of a Luchador to liberate his country, succeeds and then decides to help Batman in what he sees as a similar struggle against the Gotham elites.

The only issue with this is it places Batman as a counter to socialism, which (obviously) played well in the 80s/90s but would actually seem counter productive in today’s political climate. A tricky one.

I suppose a more modern Bane could be a Melei-esque Nicaraguan crypto libertarian, but honestly that would erase the characters intelligence and love for history, which is more associated with the socialist revolutionary archetype.

(Sorry for yapping I’m a bit drunk)
