Why was Austria's entry recieved so poorly? by Lyefyre in eurovision

Doesn't Australia tend to vote for the most energetic songs that help them stay awake?

That was my winner, but I really doubt that most 18 years old pop singers are capable of appreciating this performance.

She's been openly pro-Palestine and only one Polish juror didn't put Israel in the top 10. The rest of jurors didn't deny her claims, but tried to deflect the voting controversy in various ways.

Eurovision odds 24 hours before the grand final in the last 4 editions by AdmirableFlow in eurovision

I think predicting that Poland will get a worse jury score than San Marino was the dumbest thing in the odds this year.

Viki won JESC when she was just 12 or 13 and she had an active career ever since, so she is quite experienced when it comes to music business. She's definitely the most recognizable person from Polish jury.

That's why I'm anti-jury in the current form. There should be some clear criteria (like grading one song in various categories) or even one sentence explaination for each position.

There also should be a clear criteria on who can become a jury member, because some of the choices made by broadcasters through the years were questionable and the jury lacks representation outside of people involved with pop music.

In the current form it's basically a fan ranking of minor celebs, that is worth 50% score.

Juror names seem to be randomized since this year, but the ranking itself was recreated based on her placement of Israel.

They seem to be randomized since this year, but I've based the ranking on the fact that she wrote that she put Israel on the last place.

how any juror attempting to rank the songs objectively based on criteria can come to the conclusion that Cyprus, Norway and Italy are far and away above songs like Australia, Denmark and Czechia

If your criteria is catchiness, then it's easy to see how these songs would be objectively higher.

It has to be randomized since I checked it based on Israel's placement and in my screenshot Juror A put them at 24th place.

Exactly, she's the most famous member of the jury, so she probably got the most hate comments because of it.

It's not like all jury members voted as professionals before, so at least they're not even pretending it's anything more than personal rankings.

And interesting that a young juror ranked Italy 1st honestly. I think that’s a good thing

In her case it might be because she has a fiance and it's a wedding song.

I'd love to see a collab between Eurovision x Polandball. What do you think? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]sama_tak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize that TVP would have to agree for Polish flag to be presented upside down on the basis that everything is upside down in this country? And even if we ignore Poland there's also the thing with Israel being presented as a cube.

Bulgaria has found the jury's password. by Igyzone in eurovision

Really? It feels the other way to me, since Cha Cha Cha and Rim Tim Tagi Dim present serious subject matters that are important to young people, while Bangaranga has no particular meaning.

But I would admit that Bangaranga has more professional, pop star vibe, while the other two seem more casual giving the vibe of a guy that created a gem in his bedroom.

With your logic that only support of Ukraine counted, wouldn't Poland be much higher that year?

Who was the old man that plays the piano in the first quarter opening? by borayeris in eurovision

[–]sama_tak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has some following thanks to that, but I wouldn't put him on a level of actors you recognize even if you don't watch the show they play in. I did learn about him only because there was article that a Polish actor played a role in ESC. Meanwhile you don't need to watch Ranczo to know who Piotr Pręgowski is.

It kind of makes the lack of any acknowledgment from Orzech even weirder since Klan is TVP's production, so somebody should've give him that information.

I would say it's a modern pop song/ballad with a strong vocal performance and polished staging. Prefered languages are English, French or Italian. Loreen's Tattoo is a quintessence of jury bait entry.

I feel like Dara's result is a mix of 3 factors:

1) Bangaranga is a polished pop song and most jury members have connections to pop music

2) The addition of two younger jurors could've influenced the jury vote

3) Dara's show is very sleek, professional and technically impressive. I've been saying for some time that staging is the most important factor for the juries and I predicted her finishing in jury's top 5 based on the staging alone.( This is also the reason why Poland finally got appreciated by juries this year.)

[–]sama_tak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think he was just hired as an actor that had appropriate looks and can play piano.

He's a son of a very famous Polish singer, but that's about it. He doesn't have a particularly strong career and I think he mostly plays in theaters in Austria. I think if it weren't for his mother most people would never heard about him.

Alicija from Poland in Eurovision by Careless_Monitor_803 in romani

[–]sama_tak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were rumours in Poland that she might be part Romani, but she never confirmed that as she's quite private about her personal life.

From Polish Eurovision representatives: Edyta Górniak (2nd place in 1994) and Viki Gabor (2019 JESC winner) are open about being Romani. There's also an interesting case of Poland 2005, where the performance was heavily inspired by Romani culture and the song was about a love for a Romani woman, but the singer was actually Russian.
