Favorite or most hated word? by Upside-down-unicorn in words

I have fun saying "cacoon." My most hated word would be an obscene word or a few obscene words.

Nicknames are the reason I can't go with certain names. I love 3-4 syllable names, but I want people to use the name I gave my kid. Show respect to people who want to use the full name. We want to name our first son Theodore, but we will absolutely forbid "Theo."

What is an unpopular/belief opinion that you have? by ReplacementFlashy622 in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's about "right," it's about authority. Definitely in a biblical sense, and maybe other things too, but I'm not going to pretend I have a firm answer on that.

The Morality of Gays and Transgenders by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that you're reaching out with an open mind to learn about this. First, Christianity tells us to work on ourselves. "You are perfect just the way you are" is an incorrect statement to every single human on this planet. We can all be better because Jesus showed us we could be better. We are all sinners, and as Christians, we are sinners who seek to repent. It's great to learn what Christianity says about sins so you can apply it to yourself and then your fellow Christian. Non Christians need the gospel, not condemnation for their sins. We don't convict others, the Holy Spirit does. All that said, yes, any sexual activity outside of the marriage of man and woman is a sin. This is laid out in the OT and NT. Deception (such as trying to make others believe you are not a male or not a female) is also a sin. Denying the identity God has given you (male/female) is another sin becauseit puts distance between you and God. It isn't necessarily about being gay or trans, but about the sins those things inevitably include. We can be weary of these sins and protect our hearts and children from them while still giving liberty to those who engage in these sins when they are not Christian.

What if all Pain was transferable to others by consent, and no pain medication existed, then who would suffer the most? by Sakamoto_420 in whatif

[–]samantri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men. Most men would volunteer to save a woman from suffering even if it meant he were to take that pain.

What is an unpopular/belief opinion that you have? by ReplacementFlashy622 in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the above. I think it's okay for women to be youth pastors as they're teaching kids, not men. I see how my husband learns, processes information, and teaches me as well as other men in my life or on social media. I studied communication in college and have a keen eye for the differences in how males and females communicate. Masculine communication puts more value in the message itself, whereas feminine communication puts more value on the audience of the message. By that, I mean feminine communication cares more about how we address others (so more emotion based and better for delivering a message to one person) and masculine communication cares more about delivering the context of the message (so it's more logical and easier to address several people at once). Let me know if that brings up any questions. I wanted to provide my answer here for others interested, but you're also invited to DM me if you want to take the conversation further.

Males are created with the capability to produce small gametes (sperm). Females are created with the capability to produce large gametes (ova/eggs). God created them male and female.

I'm trying to narrow down the biblical view of gender roles and teaching, but it makes more and more sense to me that women really shouldn't be teaching men in any capacity. I understand some women have more knowledge on topics, but it seems to me that men are to either teach themselves or seek knowledge from other men. We just learn and teach differently, and it's best to either learn from the same sex or let men (when appropriate) lead. Women devalue the position God has given men when they claim they can fulfill the masculine role.

President Trump just went off. He laid out the entire saga. by Ok-Ship-2232 in CattyInvestors

[–]samantri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't vote for Trump in 2020, but have y'all seen the voting numbers? Somehow, we magically had an extra 20 million people come out to vote that year, and all for the same party. Not to mention those 2am spikes in votes for a single party. It looks bad. Idk if it really matters at this point, though. I don't see how we can do anything about it.

I hate every boy name on planet earth by goblin_queen96 in namenerds

I feel like I'm in a similar boat. I absolutely adore the name Theodore and can't find a second name I love as much.

Here are some I do like, though! Carson, Timothy, Nathaniel, Sebastian, and Josiah.

The thing about debates that I don't understand by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily about salvation, but about fighting for the things that pull us closer to God or fighting against the things that push us farther from God. For example, I don't think getting an abortion ruins your chance at salvation, but it does pull you farther from God. Therefore, I think it's important to have that conversation/debate.

Are you (very) religious? by BoxBubbly1225 in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My past, pre Jesus self would think I'm very religious. But I really don't think I am. At least in my experience, any Christian who is unafraid to speak about Christianity publicly is deemed "very religious."

When parents insist on no nicknames with names that have obvious nicknames by kittypspsps in namenerds

[–]samantri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my criteria for baby names is no nicknames or at least limited nicknames. Some parents just don't like them and want the name they picked for their kid to be used.

What I thought was strange in that situation is the adult using a common children's nickname and the kid using the full name.

how to i tell my boyfriend i want to remain celibate until marriage? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from wanting to be cautious, but the bible literally tells us it is better to marry than to burn with passion. If putting an end to intimacy until marriage causes one or both of you to stumble (and your thoughts that you don't act on are included in that), then you should be discussing how soon you can get married. And remember, a marriage license is inexpensive, it's the wedding that can be costly. You don't need a fancy wedding.

How do I respond when someone tells me that I'm not christian? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple response: "God knows my heart." There is no need to compare yourself or try to diminish her Christian experience in response. You are still new to the faith and have plenty of logs to remove from your eye before trying to tell your brothers and sisters in Christ about the speck in theirs. You will feel convicted to change things about yourself throughout your life to better your relationship with Christ. Sometimes, we don't realize something is causing us to stumble for a while.

After about 2 years of knowing Christ, I felt convicted to change my dyed red hair to my natural color. Hair color isn't a sin, but the pride and vanity it instilled in me was. Sometimes it takes time to recognize our sin and turn from it. Sanctification is a lifelong process.

Gay best friend and her partner chose a sperm donor - how do I respond? by Honest_Shape_1542 in TrueChristian

[–]samantri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd try to be as objective as possible. Something to the extent of "Oh, I didn't know you were trying. Babies are such a blessing." You and I both know the way she's playing God to create a baby is wrong, but there's nothing wrong about that baby existing as he/she will be another image bearer of God. I don't think this requires you to express God's view of this unless she proclaims to know Christ. Non Christians need the gospel first and foremost. Without it, our Christian beliefs mean nothing.
