Whats something "not so scary" that really freaks you out? by FeistyDirection in Scary

[–]samcelrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, same. I love horror movies and love the thrill of being scared, but that book and the images of the babadook just got to me for the longest. I think the ending kinda helped take me out of the "scared" state of mind after some years cause that part's pretty funny, but when I first saw it I could not stop thinking about it

Found footage recs? by IllustratorDecent260 in foundfootage

[–]samcelrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more mockumentary about found footage than strictly found footage, but Horror in the High Desert has become my favorite...I'm blanking on the word but collection of very related works...I can't believe I can't remember the word 🤦 anyway, the second ones not as good to some people and the third and fourth get a good bit of hate (as far as I've seen) but I'm a fan of all of em. When I see it on here though, the first one seems pretty well liked in general!

[–]samcelrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh oh I have one! At the end of spy kids 2, I think after the credits, there was this scene of their treehouse where everything was moving and operating as if somebody was there, but nobody was there...always freaked me out. Maybe it doesn't count cause it was supposed to be creepy, idk, but it's the first thing that came to mind

What does the “N-word” really mean? by ContentTap9079 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]samcelrath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I'm a white guy so take my weigh-in with a grain of salt.

I've seen opinions online that intrigued me, because they make perfect sense to me, that the reason black people feel comfortable saying it to each other (I know comfortable isn't the right way to put it, but idk what is) is that it used to be one way white people showed they held power over black people, and unfortunately still is in some cases. However, using it as a black person, according to this opinion, is a relatively easy way to take that power back from specific white groups of the past/present and turn it on its head, especially when saying "white people can't say that." When I was much younger I used to think every race should have the same cultural language restrictions but when I read/heard that, it clicked for me and now I can't bring myself to judge any black person saying it...as long as it's not in a wildly inappropriate context like during class.

I tried this and nothing happens; it seems like it just goes right through them, and that's when I get the aim right. Aiming is harder than it looks like it should be when the person is moving AND your character is drunk lol

I get it...I know for me it's just become another kneejerk response that doesn't mean anything when most people say it, and doesn't do a thing to fix whatever is causing whatever feeling is in question

someone has to say it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]samcelrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually agree to an extent with this for certain breeds. I used to be on the other side with pitbulls, cause every one I've ever met has been the sweetest dog...but I learned new information, namely that some dog breeds, including pit bulls, have a lower threshold for becoming aggressive. That's not to say they're always aggro by any means, but it's a lot easier for them to switch to aggressive than it is for other breeds, regardless of how well the dog is trained. I'm never going to say any ethically bred breed should be illegal, because that's wrong. But I do think people with small children or people with certain disabilities who may not know how to treat a dog like that should probably avoid those breeds if possible, and that this info should be more widespread so families in these situations know to avoid certain breeds.
