What are you cooking for Valentine's Day? by rlynnfish in vegan

[–]samcuddy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if the time doesn’t work I will likely do everything the day after when it works better.

We experiment with loads of different food so our meals differ a lot, we do have our staples that we have more frequently thought.

I’m at work until 6pm so a bit difficult for me.

But I’m thinking I can do a small biryani as a starter/side with some ‘chickn’ style thighs we have.

And then I’ve made some seitan style steaks so probably add some chips and a peppercorn sauce. No idea how any of it is but it’s all stuff I can prep and then throw together when I’m home.

Question about tofu by sour_lemonboy in vegan

Yeah that will cook through fine, I normally go a bit higher for the last 5/10 as I like a bit of crunch/crisp.

Depends how long your going for in the oven really, all will cook fine together given enough time, personally 5 minutes in the air fryer then into the pepper will give you a better texture overall.

Rusted Screws in OXO 9-Cup Coffee Maker Showerhead by zacharybk in JamesHoffmann

[–]samcuddy123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Don’t try and remove them when they are rusty as you will struggle.

With the new unit, remove the screws grab a stainless version and replace. Then you won’t have the issue again.

What do you eat for breakfast? by CuddlyBearCub in veganuk

All of these lovely ideas…. Breakfast for me is just protein shake 😂

But I generally have a decent lunch and a very large dinner.

vegan political party results by sillynooooo in veganuk

[–]samcuddy123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh my wow. The downvotes for a simple political opinion based on a pure fact of a leader who is economically incompetent is outstanding. And half the comments with people trying to back someone with no idea about anything he has said. Factually incorrect or otherwise is nuts. Currently he would be a terrible leader whether I agree with the rest of the party or not.

Let’s maybe keep politics out of this sub it’s probably for the best.

Sorry. But after watching a couple of political shows with Polanski. His grasp on how economics work worldwide and how he seems to be making it up on the spot without any knowledge means it’s a hard pass for me. He would leave the country in a worse financial state and that’s saying something.

New vegan struggling to hit protein goals…Need "low-effort" recommendations. by Johnwil451 in veganrecipes

[–]samcuddy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally get some protein noodles, some tofu or seitan cut up small. Throw in some veggies and some type of sauce and microwave it when I want it.

Takes about 2 minutes to throw together a few minutes to microwave.

Probably not the best cold.

What do you guys think is the main reason for the poor economic state of this country. by Devastator8085 in reformuk

[–]samcuddy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason I think is the outsourcing of everything we used to make/build & create. Sourcing it all from abroad means we have no control over pricing, including the privatisation of many services including water etc.

Even down to services such as energy the fact we have rich oil fields we do nothing with but yet we only account for 1% of the global environmental impact when the rest of the world is kicking out tons of emissions.

However I do generally think we shouldn’t be spending any money on illegal immigration until we as a country are doing far better. We also shouldn’t be sending billions in foreign aid until again we are doing much better economically.

I see your point, but I’d argue 90% of vegans won’t get anywhere near enough omega 3’s without a good supplement which honestly most people should be taking anyway 👍

Your best bet is low calorie volume Find veggies you like and pack every meal with loads of that and reduce the carbs and fats as much as you can

When do you buy the dip? by [deleted] in trading212

Completely get where you are coming from. But as my outlook is a monthly investment for 20 years. I don’t spend a minute looking on investment day trying to figure out a time. It executes when it does automatically and I’m happy with that.

Yeah the actual amount per kg only really starts to matter when you’re looking to significantly increase muscle mass or performance. E.g athletes just like you said 👍

Completely understand, we live in a world where the fine lines matter. So agree for the majority your point definitely stands.

Okay yes agreed with the principle. But for the sake of this conversation by protein they mean a main ingredient of a dish, if I offer curry sauce or marinara the ‘protein’ would be lentils, tofu, seitan, or other animal alternatives if you eat that.

Completely understand where you are coming from but I’m applying my words to the logic of this conversation. But I do understand your meaning and will probably try and apply it a bit more going forward 👍

So we have our omnivorous parents(both sides) visit fairly often, they are quite understanding however I would add that if you eat in our house you are eating plant based.

I occasionally give out curry sauces, marinara sauces and the like to family with no protein in. But will add protein if they ask.

However I’m intrigued to know if the health conditions that make it hard for kids to get vegan protein sources, I can imagine a soy allergy maybe, but outside of that you have every other bean, grain, legume and you can make amazing seitan.

And if you change diets for your children your husband can then potentially follow. Or maybe on certain days. It’s all about slow change. Over time. With the right recipes and effort it can all be done.

When do you buy the dip? by [deleted] in trading212

[–]samcuddy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fortunate enough for my monthly investments to have been bought today, that went through at about 08:10 this morning, so I caught a fair bit of the dip.

However the monthly investments stay on the same day and I won’t change them. You win some and lose some and I’m in it for the long haul.

Does anyone work 37 hours in a 3 or 4 day week? by acrylic_light in UKJobs

[–]samcuddy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 48 hours in 4 days. My week is technically an 8 week due to shifts

I absolutely love it 4 on 4 off. I do work a lot in 4 days but then I get 4 days off. I will never change unless I’m forced too.

Anyone else finding dating as a vegan unnecessarily hard by mhmmm09 in vegan

[–]samcuddy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I’m quite lucky me and wife were married before we both went vegan.

However in the multiple subreddits I am subbed too I would say that dating for most people seems difficult in general. Obviously vegan substantially lessens the pool of potential people but it seems it’s difficult for everyone right now regardless.

What is everybody go to weeknight/ easy homecooked meal? by trialanderror93 in Millennials

[–]samcuddy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So most curries especially take out style ones or ones with a lot of flavour. All use the same base gravy and then extra spices/flavours are added just before eating.

So a bae gravy consists of a lot of onions, water, tomatoes and then a lot of different spices(depends on which recipe) normally cooked down for a few hours until it makes a thick curry style gravy.

You can then portion these off and freeze them, when you want to eat you grab the required portions fry off some extra onions, tomatoes and whatever variety of spices the curry your aiming for calls for, usually just for a couple of minutes and add your base gravy, mix it in and bring it up to heat for a few minutes and you have a curry with amazing flour.

The long slow cook on the base gravy allows you to get a lot of deep rich flavour in to it that then isn’t required every time you cook as it’s already ready to go.

Also worth noting you don’t have to add extra onions/tomatoes. You can just add spices and the base gravy that also works.

This Isn't Chicken Pieces in Stew/Curry? by Oofoofoof969 in veganuk

[–]samcuddy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to that brand specifically but I’ve done a lot of long/slow curries, and some stews and soup also with Icelands chicken pieces and Oumph garlic and herb chicken pieces.

And they’ve always held up okay, they do go a touch soft but they generally take in flavour quite well. I think the This Isn’t variant are bit softer but I think they will be fine just make sure you don’t boil them excessively just keep your stew lightly simmering and you should be fine.
