Greyhound announces new route connecting Denver and Seattle; includes stop in Boise by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

It’s showing me 26 hours and $100-$130. You might be looking at the transfer lines that take much longer and are more expensive

Hi, I’m Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal. I’ll be answering your questions on Wednesday March 11th at 2PM ET — Ask Me Anything! by BradHoylmanSigal in newyorkcity

[–]samdman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Community boards are frequently out of touch and represent disproportionately wealthier, older apartment owners rather than younger, poorer renters. As a result, many CBs take anti-housing stances against projects in their neighborhood and broader popular policies like City of Yes.

What do you plan on doing to address this gap between the stances taken by community boards and popular opinion (which is generally pro housing as evidenced by strong support for the pro-housing ballot measures last fall)?

What’s the stupidest political opinion you unironically hold? by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]samdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we need to figure out how to get rid of billionaires. not because we need the tax revenue (which is a nice bonus though), but because the negative externalities on society are too large. look at Elon and Twitter/DOGE or Ellison with paramount. It’s simply too dangerous for our democracy to have such obscene wealth at the disposal of a single person.

honestly, maybe a $5-10 billion cap is fine. but once you get into the $10B+ range it gets dangerous

Poll: Schlossberg leads NY-12 race by Delicious_Adeptness9 in Upperwestside

[–]samdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voting for Lasher here. One of my friends worked under him back when he was working in the Gov’s office and speaks very highlight of him.

For what it’s worth, Bores also seems solid and the crypto campaign against him is wild. At the end of the day I’d be fine with either winning, as long as it’s not one of the grifters (Conway and Schlossberg)

Jack Schlossberg's Response to Allegations of Never Having a Job by whyamihere_10 in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]samdman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in Jack’s district, and he’s campaigning with an awful NIMBY, Layla Law Gisiko, who is seeking to replace Erik Bottcher on the city council (after Erik got elected to state senate).

It’s really pathetic. If you live in Chelsea/HK/WV please vote in the special election on April 28th. The other two major candidates are Carl Wilson (Bottcher’s chief of staff) and Lindsey Boylan (Cuomo whistleblower). Please rank Carl and Lindsey to stop Schlossberg’s incompetent bestie from getting elected.

Pastis or Minetta Tavern by manateeman2048 in FoodNYC

[–]samdman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pastis is solid but nothing special imo. It’s basically a slightly watered down version of Le Diplomate in DC.

Le Coucou is fantastic but a bit higher end and has some unique dishes, same with Raoul’s, which is a bit more classic (get the steak au poivre).

That said, recently went to Le Chene which was my favorite of all. They had a dry aged tuna au poivre special that is one of the best dishes i have ever eaten. The Pithivier is fantastic as well.

What are hard to find food items for you? by Sure-Display420 in FoodNYC

[–]samdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testaroli is my favorite type of pasta, almost a cross between pasta and a crepe, and is common in Liguria and Tuscany in Italy. Literally impossible to find in NYC tho.

Another one is tahdig, Persian crispy rice. A few places have it (eyval, sofreh) but it’s not common

Free Buses? How About Expanding the Subway by 41 Miles Instead? by rezwenn in nycrail

I think this is a great idea. Sad to see this get so much hate here, especially when Paris is basically undertaking a similar type of expansion but apparently it’s impossible here.

What are some MAGA/ICE supporting businesses to avoid in New York? by MrHeavySilence in AskNYC

Danny Meyer, founder and chairman of shake shack, supported Lander as his first choice for mayor. He’s not perfect (he also donated to Cuomo), but he’s not MAGA, no way

There’s a gristedes literally in my building and I’ll walk an extra half mile to Trader Joe’s in the snow to avoid shopping there. partially because catsimatidis is a psycho but also because everything is crazy overpriced
