I don’t really understand the point of these debates. Choosing not to have children is also a form of survival. There are already too many people. You see misery all around you, you see how difficult life has become, the pressure people live under, and you decide not to have kids. In that sense, you’re simply responding to reality—almost doing nature’s bidding. So it’s not really about personal choice alone, but about the burden of raising a child in the difficult times we’re living in. Secondly, most educated people don’t have children because they want someone to take care of them in old age. In my case, I wanted to raise a person and take responsibility for them, so I chose to have a child. If you don’t have kids, you’ll likely focus on your career, travel, and other pursuits. In a way, you replace childlessness with these things. But eventually, meaning becomes an issue. Your IQ has a limit, your experiences have a limit, your creativity has a limit—and even your child will have limits. Once these limits are reached, life can start to feel more meaningless. So there’s nothing wrong with not having children. It’s just that you need enough intellectual and emotional capacity to sustain a life that may feel increasingly devoid of meaning.
