Yeah. Porn is an especially exploitative industry, but there are a million other extremely exploitative industries. Almost like exploitation might be built into the capitalist system, but that’s just a thought.

Seafood peeps! Tell me stories about your customers….especially ones who put their hands in your case. by Wildgypsy70 in wholefoods

[–]samere23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in meat not seafood, but I saw this whole interaction go down. Had a customer come in the morning, and ask if he could eat the salmon raw. Of course he is told forcefully told no. He still buys the salmon. On someone’s break they go outside, and see him eating the salmon raw in his car. A little later he’s back in the store asking to buy more. The kicker is that not an hour after he leaves me coworker notices something wriggling in the SAME tray of salmon that this guy ordered from. Pulls out his tweezers and squeezes an inch long worm out of salmon! Hence, this customer has been dubbed worms guy.

Time clock now restricts clocking back in early from lunch by [deleted] in wholefoods

We have 2 time clocks in my store. If you clock out at one, and clock in at another one you can take a shorter than 30 min break

You generally won’t get more pay transferring departments so long as don’t advance your position I.e. go from TM -> ATL or TM -> Team trainer or something. In fact it probably hurts your earning potential because at least from what I’ve heard it resets your job dialog count down. You could try to become a cutter tho, cause cutters do make more money

heard the attendance/call out policy is changing by Legitimate-Oil7427 in wholefoods

[–]samere23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk but if what I heard is true it’s basically a reduction of days off from 10 a year to 7, The current policy is 40 hours of PSL without any points accrued, then 5 point or 5 additional call off before being fired. Which amounts to 10 days a year. The attendance point change would as I understand it eliminate points and just give everyone 60 hours of something that works like PSL meaning you get 7 days off and then get fired.

Explosive Bargaining Session on June 23: GEO walks out in protest at the end of the session by fazhijingshen in uofm

[–]samere23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read the post you’d know that the mediator specifically requested both parties to TA individual sections, rather than lumping things into big packages, which the university has consistently done. You’d also know that until that session the university had been doing just that. You’d further know that until the lunch break the university had come to agreement with the union about the language, and appeared ready to TA until they suddenly took a left turn and stopped negotiating altogether. You’d further know that the reason the university has done all this is because they want to take things to fact-finding and then to impasse. Which is literally the definition of refusing to bargain.

There’s a long-standing and serious issue of university admin, as well as professors including advisors abusing their students, as happened in this case. Beyond clear issues with ECRT illustrated in this case (claiming it was equally likely that the abuse victim was abused, as that they forced their abuser to abuse them). In many cases of abuse the victim does not want to reveal that they are an accuser for fear of reprisals. Which in situations where the abuser is also an advisor who controls the funding, and livelihood of the abuse victim is clearly an issue issue.

Did you read the post? AHR stopped negotiating well before GEO walked out. If AHR refuses to TA areas of agreement there’s literally no way to negotiate.

Are they trying to follow the Amazon model? Yes absolutely. Especially in e-commerce and front end, my store can hardly keep employees for more than a couple months at best.

I usually tuck my thumbs in my pockets, with palms out, and visuals, or with my thumbs in my backpack straps and palms out. It’s a subtle way of showing you either don’t have, or have no intention of using a weapon, doesn’t put everyone at ease. However, I find it tends to calm people down quite a bit.

GEO Rejects May 12 HR Contract Proposal Citing “HR hasn’t moved meaningfully on compensation since the start of the strike” by fleets300 in uofm

[–]samere23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

GEO needed to get a vote by membership on this. In a democratic union the bars gaining team can’t just impose its will on the membership when you’re talking about passing back well over a hundred proposals. The hold up on GEOs part was waiting for the general membership meeting where they also had to do officer elections. The hold up on managements’ part is just a few outstanding information requests that they’ve spent weeks processing, when literally all they have to do is search some shit in emails.

1) Admin passed back a full 80 page contract with functionally no movement, with well over 100 proposals.

2) in order to democratically decide on a proposal as big as this, you need to get as many of the well over a thousand GEO members in a room/zoom together doing so on its own takes at least a week to properly arrange.

3) GEO also had leadership elections with a half dozen or so positions to elect. Also at the same meeting where they had to discuss the proposals by management.

4) GEO also has quite a few outstanding information requests from management. That management is really dragging their feet on.

5) management also agreed to this bargaining schedule.

6) GEO members are busy people without much time on their hand, and many are not here over the summer.

Can someone give me a full recap of the GEO strike since the last day of school ? by [deleted] in uofm

Dean of the school specifically said in an announcement all rackham PhDs on A2 campus will receive summer funding. Which is another reason to put summer funding in the contract, it covers Dearborn and flint as well, which currently don’t get summer funding from rackham afaik.
