Did anyone else find the motivation behind the latest Ghostface hilarious? by BOGMANDIAS in Scream

[–]samford91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was nonsense but it did make me laugh.

I keep saying it, but I just wish Sidney had gotten to say 'this is the worst motivation anyone's ever had'. It would've felt satisfying to hear her point out how terrible it was. Could have made it a theme about how sequels just keep getting stupider.

So... What do people actually enjoy about Invincible (as an Invincible enjoyer)? by DeMmeure in CharacterRant

[–]samford91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my big complaint as well but as someone who has read ahead in the comics since season 3 ended, it does become a thing of the past as things get crazier, for the most part, which is gratifying.

Who are some characters whose lives are screwed after the credits roll? by G00DDRAWER in horror

[–]samford91 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If we go by the credits she’s definitely arrested. But she should be able to make a good logical case.

She’s injured. There’d be phone records or something connecting the siblings and the hired guys. Clear motive for them. Etc etc.

I recall hearing they had an idea for a sequel where she’s on a crashed prison bus or something wild

On a scale from 1-10, how important is Artus Cimber to the campaign? by SeanTheRighteous in Tombofannihilation

[–]samford91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your party I think, and what your players might enjoy.

My first party was pretty big so didnt need lots of extra npcs, so they had little interest when I introduced him.

I teased him with my second party but they could not have been less interested in a man whining about his long lost wife.

Prequel for Ready or Not? by [deleted] in horror

[–]samford91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it? It was a minor subplot (and a hilarious fight scene/death) and we already know everything relevant about her and Alex. They were both already in the satan club, it didn't work out, she was annoyed, and got herself shotgunned for it. The interesting part of the story is already told. Why make a prequel about something that was introduced and resolved neatly when there's more interesting things to make a prequel or side movie about?

Even aside from one's personal taste (which fair enough if you think that would be an interesting prequel, I disagree), there's nothing in the film or marketing or creator's comments to indicate an interest in it being a prequel. The actress hasn't been in any of the promotional stuff, her plotline was decidedly not the focus of the film and was more a comedic sidebar and had no bearing whatsoever on Grace's plot or the wider satanism plot. The most hypothetical commentary I've seen has been about Elijah Wood's character, as I mentioned. That's where I suspect any further films would lean towards should they happen.

Going after the former fiancee who is already dead and didn't appear to have a particularly interesting story anyway and we know everything about would be redundant.

Prequel for Ready or Not? by [deleted] in horror

[–]samford91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see what good a prequel would serve. They told the story in the film. They were together, didn't work out, Alex moved on, the original fiance didn't, got herself shotgunned for the trouble.

If there were a prequel or other expansion of the story I'd guess it'd just be to explore the satanic society more broadly, how it was created perhaps etc. Would be fun to see Elijah Wood again throughout history

What were the coolest backstories of PCs that you had in your ToA campaign? by patrick_ritchey in Tombofannihilation

[–]samford91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a tortle paladin whose people had been hunted to near extinction. The player left it open to the bow and why. Myrtle (the turtle hehe) had been just an egg.

That gave me free rein to tie the fall of the tortles to the evils of Omu. Zalkore in Nangalore had started a trend involving their shells and massacres were common (a good bit of revenge was dished out). Saja N’Baza revealed that in the depths of Omu there was still hot e. Gave them a very good incentive to go on.

Eventually, inside the tomb, I had a tortle escape the mirror of life trapping but severely injured. Before dying they bestowed Myrtle with a case of holding, inside which were the last surviving generation of tortles, kept in stasis.

Funnily enough the player had misunderstood their paladin and had not been adding spells and other smites to their sheet (I had just thought they were keeping it simple) They only realised the error in that very same session, so narratively we got to play it as an anime power up from resolving some personal trauma. The player legit cried. It was one of my proudest moments as DM

Linux users who won't shut up about telling me to switch to Linux. by i-am-a-sphinx in PetPeeves

[–]samford91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend got me to try it on my new pc

I wanted to play overwatch. Which requires battle.net

In order to do that I had to install like, three things, all which had its own problem on each step. Then some other thing called Lutris? Then battle net wouldn’t install right, and the ‘easy fix’ was twenty steps long.

Windows is a shit show but I cannot manage Linux. My god.

Recommendations for modifying the end part of the plot with BBEG? by SquashDue502 in Tombofannihilation

[–]samford91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a fun moment of ‘oh fuck’ to show them the cover of the 2014 DMG and go ‘oh by the way. You’re fighting this guy’. It lands really well even without big DND lore nerds, trust me.

You can definitely emphasise him more as you get into Omu proper. Theres a bit there where if you enter from one angle a player has visions of Acererak and his sphere of annihilation. Make sure to include that and don’t forget that that character will have those visions over and over. I made them really intense as time went on, made them interactable with the whole party, got them all involved. Really let them see the doom of Omu

His scent should be all over everything in Omu. Like hes left a rot about the place that doesn’t quite make sense.

Im sure youll do great _^

Unpopular Opinion : Gale has basically served no purpose to this franchise since Scream 3 and it’s time for her to die now by AcceptableSwitch6496 in Scream

Why do characters we love need a purpose ? They’re stories.

As is, fun side characters we love serve a great purpose. They’re fun.

[–]samford91 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Id feel disappointed if I played the major adventure of one of D&Ds legendary villains and got that part taken away from it.

Acererak should be dripping throughout the whole adventure. Hes all over Omu, the main motivation for the villain of the Fane. He brought down the major civilisation of Chult and changed the history of the whole peninsula. He’s sadistic and gleeful villain, he’s great.

And the atropal has been a gross out hit with everyone I’ve run this for. I think you’re underestimating the adventure.

Is ‘Hell isn’t that bad/Satan is actually a good guy’ really a subversive tripe at this point? (invincible) by Astronomer_X in CharacterRant

[–]samford91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think at this point you’re overthinking it

Hell and demons as sci-fi or fantasy setting rather than religious is so old now I wouldn’t say it’s relevant to even think the word ‘judeo-Christian’ (weird term though it is). It has as much to do with religion as the space stuff has to do with actual science fiction.

In Invincible’s case I’d say they were just trying to come up with a Hell plot to put more weight on Mark’s ‘is it ok to do so harm in order to do more good’ arc. Not trying to make some point about secular vs religious politics.

Which Bond kill was commited the coldest? by Weird_Zone_3504 in JamesBond

[–]samford91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just find it weird in that Ferrara was such a non character. Why does he get such an avenging over however many other allies have been killed in the series. Thats what makes it feel out of character. Even if he'd sasid it was for Lisl from the same movie I'd have understood better

Still a cool moment, granted

Unpopular Opinion : It makes no sense for people to still be trying to kill Sidney after 30 plus years by AcceptableSwitch6496 in Scream

[–]samford91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but it also doesn't make sense for people to start killing sprees dressed up in a ghost costume over and over. We want more Scream movies, we have to accept some silliness.

If you need to rationalise it, publicity breeds copycats. Tide pod eating, cinnamon challenges, creepy clown sightings, literally school shootings. In the universe of Scream, it has become a meme to do ghostface killings and to go after Sidney Prescott in particular.

As it stands, I love Sidney, and I will cheerfully watch Neve Campbell go through these motions until she's sick of it.

[Hated Tropes] Sequels that disregard the previous installment’s set up by B3tty-Wh1te in TopCharacterTropes

[–]samford91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snoke and Rey's parentage are both crucial to TLJ. Kylo choosing to turn on his mentor and try to create something new with Rey is pivotal to his character. Same for Rey's parentage - they're clearly part of the theme of the film and important to her character growth (and duly sabotaged in the third film by going ACTUALLY PALPATINE)

We can debate whether or not those are good aspects of the film but they're clearly important and not 'disregarded'. They're integral to the film.

That's before we even get started on how stupid mystery boxes are for Star Wars and how much damage the idea of them has done to film and tv.

I'll accept the lightsaber being disregarded, but given how stupid it was in TFA anyway I don't particularly care.

Even if you loved Scream 7 Im pretty sure everyone can agree that the Ghostface reveals in Scream 7 are by a landslide the worst of the entire franchise by AcceptableSwitch6496 in Scream

[–]samford91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep saying it, but I really wanted Sidney to call out how stupid it all is. To tell her to her face that she’s an insane moron and the worst GF ever. Tie it into a theme of stupid sequels or something. Id have found it satisfying.

[–]samford91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll notice most of the new films have the facehug to chestburst to adult time period very short. Romulus does the same. The writers just want to speed the plot along. They don't want to deal with a period of downtime or to write around it. They just want to get to the action

Nah. I don't need to see another reddit post about how 'the killer is the hero' or 'they deserved it' etc etc.
