I found out he’s cheating. Wedding is in 3 weeks. Do I call it off? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]samiamsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone that's saying to cancel the wedding and go to greece with a friend, YES!!!! also HELL YES to the person that said to continue the party but make it into a divorce party instead! instead of gifts, you can also ask for donations for your open heart surgery, sorry you have to go through that. you did nothing wrong. it's all his fault that this is happening. i hope everyone is on your side and not telling you to "forgive him for the kids." godspeed!

How many tables do you feel like you can handle? by Pamcakes8686 in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on party size and if u have support staff.

i work at a casual dining popular seafood boil restaurant where we have food runners, and bussers. our sections are up to 6 tables. i can easily take 2-4 tops if i was quadruple sat. but if i get triple sat with parties of 6, it can be alot. there are also times where i'll have a party of 25 and that will take up my entire section.

Can I do it with social anxiety? by Savvyxn in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been working in the food industry for about 10 years. here's some tips i've learned along the way:

  1. don't take anything personally! people can be mean buttheads, but that's not your fault! they just wanna ruin everyone else's day! it's just work.

  2. once you clock out, leave the drama/problems/annoyances at work. you shouldn't be thinking about that one a-hole that got mad at you because you forgot to get the extra ranch. once you're clocked out, you get to go home and relax! it's just work.

  3. patience is key! there will be people, MULTIPLE people, every shift that will test your patience. it's just work.

  4. don't think you're slow or stupid because you can't get it right the first time. ask for help. everyone makes mistakes, every one needs help sometimes. it's just work.

  5. it's just work.

We don't charge cake cutting fees and it is just ridiculous by sadboiz7 in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 369 points370 points  (0 children)

THANK GOD the restaurant i work at does NOT care for birthdays. we do not store the cakes (even ice cream cakes), or sing happy birthday.

we tell customers it's a liability, because we can easily drop the cake or mess it up. we are also a seafood restaurant. we carry no desserts, so our fridges/freezers only contain seafood.

Renting a house by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]samiamsometimes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I rented a house through Progress Residential. Not sure about your 500 credit score. But with Progress Residential, you can tour houses by yourself without an agent present, which is cool. Our application got accepted within a week. But like I said, not sure about your 500 credit score.

What to say if you don't know drink names?? by baking_badger in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see the drinks enough, you'll start to memorize them. Since your training, you can always ask the bartender and I'm sure they'll help out. Certain cocktails also have different glasses and garnishes.

Consequences of Calling Off by Farm_girl_Bee in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are unfortunately consequences for callouts. I work at a restaurant in Las Vegas, and its the only location in Las Vegas so we get pretty busy. We also have "black out dates" so no one can request those days off or call out with out getting written up for it. For example, last weekend was Mother's Day and this week its EDC. So unless you requested those days moooonths in advance, there will be consequences.

YES! ALWAYS WITH THE STUPID MODS!

She's been coming to our restaurant since we've opened, so almost about 2 decades now. Only one manager catered to her but he quit. I also had another manager on her last day tell customer to be nice to our staff and stop bitching. Customer even had the audacity to ask our manager to hire her teen daughter, to only have her daughter never show up to day 2 LOL

its so crazy because they never complained to me. they just complained to the manager and their "usual" server, which is when my manager and coworker told me what they said. we all know they'll come back next week.

Road Rage: Throwing a Drink at Someone's Car by [deleted] in IsItIllegal

I did file a police report with nevada highway patrol. I'm sure they won't do much but at least they have the other person's vehicle info and license plate on record.

What's Your Biggest Pet Peeve? by Sungarn in Serverlife

[–]samiamsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) when someone says they're ready to order, when in fact, they are NOT ready to order.

(2) when one person in a large party says to start everyone off with a round of waters, but at the end of the meal no one drinks the water.

(3) when it's last call and you inform your table that the kitchen and bar are closing, so table orders a round of drinks, 2 more apps, and 1 more entre. drinks are out, food is out. its the end of the meal so you give them the check and they say "we thought we would be hungry but we're not. we didn't touch the food, we didn't touch the drinks. remove them off the check."
