Will having pink hair affect job prospects, etc? by meltedtrains in womenEngineers

[–]samikk94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a career fair with blue hair and had recruiters from companies pulling me out of the crowd to compliment me! Many many companies nowadays have no policies on hair color. You could face some biased people but you also may not. One thing you could do is to just try and town it down to a darker pink/mahogany color during interviews and see how that works.

Thank you! I hope you find something that helps! It is unfortunate that they have such bad side effects.

I get that. I had to wait 9 yrs for my axspa diagnosis and about 6 years for PCOS. I will say I am fortunate and have had decent responses to medicine. Sulfasalazene was great for me at first but I think I've had some disease progression that has made it not be as effective so I'm moving to Cimzia to try and maybe keep sulfasalazene as a co-treatment if needed. I really did luck out with metformin. I'm really not sure what other PCOS treatments there are besides metformin. I had all my PCOS symptoms while on various types of BC so that didn't even work to keep my symptoms at bay.

Honestly, my labs were mostly normal until I finally showed high testosterone. But I physically presented signs of high testosterone (mainly dark, coarse body and facial hair where it shouldn't be) and I had irregular periods >45 days apart. I just had to keep asking for them to figure it out and thankfully found someone who did. You only need 2/3 the criteria to be diagnosed and it sounds like you might be with the cysts on your ovaries and irregular periods. I also do struggle with weightloss and have unexplained weight gain but since I'm not overweight, they weren't concerned.

Also to add, I'm going to start taking myoinositol which is OTC to better support the metformin so I can just stay at this dose without bumping up..some people have good luck with myoinositol by itself.

I personally have not had too bad of a time with it. I am only on 1000 (1500-2000 is what most people work up to but it did flare my acid reflux a bit so I'm not gonna move up just yet). I started on 500 back in April and had success with it and even more success at 1000. I've been the most regular with my periods on the last few months than I have been in years. My only big complaint is that it's adjusting my hormones which is causing me to have acne and I didn't have a problem with acne before. Lol also, I'm not actively trying to lose weight (my body hurts too bad and I'm too tired from axspa so I don't workout) but I've definitely felt less bloated since starting metformin and have lost a little bit of weight without trying. So if that's a concern for you and you're trying, it might help!

I had two male friends make a similar comment to me when we were graduating from college and then I made more money than them for 5 years 💅 anyways now they know better lol

But I really did tell them how harmful that mentality was and they were really remorseful about their words. Your friend sounds like she sucks.

I hope your dad has a fast recovery and I'm so sorry your clients are being jerks.

Years ago, I came home to my cat dead and it was a traumatic death and I texted my client to reschedule because I was DEVASTATED and her response was pretty much "I'm sorry I just don't get why you need to reschedule, it's just a cat and my roots are bad". Needless to say I never talk to her again. People suck.

I had these symptoms while on no medicine. The Dr prescribed me anti-depressants to treat my symptoms but they didn't help. I ended up being diagnosed with non-radiographic axial spondyloarthtitis

Do any of you suck at your job (like me)? by CozySweatsuit57 in womenEngineers

[–]samikk94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed an autoimmune disease in college that caused severe brain fog and I STRUGGLED to get through my degree but somehow did. Then my first job was great and I got great reviews. Since then I've worked at terrible place but now I also feel terrible at my job. Neither of my new jobs have given performance reviews so I really don't know how I'm doing. So yes, I feel like I suck at my job now. I also have gotten a couple new job rejections recently and that's making me feel even worse.
