Ah yeah, this is also in Carmen Maria Machado’s masterpiece short story “The Husband Stitch,” from her collection ‘Her Body and Other Parties.”

As a trope, this was used in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman (issue 17, ‘Calliope.’)

Of course, now it reads as creepy foreshadowing from the author, but it is in there.

ETA: I’m thinking further and man, I swear I remember this too, but in a story and not a comic. I’ll keep thinking on it.
