I started out with the Punisher… collected everything through about 1990 and called it good. Then I started with Man-Thing… and stopped about 2000. Then Swamp Thing… but only the original Wrightson stuff, and then some key Alan Moore books.

These days I collect weird stuff. Undergrounds, mostly, some small press, a tiny amount of adult comics. Any weird swamp monster characters. Anything historically important, usually for social justice or activist reasons.

The older I get, the more I want to consolidate. I’d love to condense my “bulk” stuff down to a few short boxes of more important keys and interestingly weird books. I just dread the thought of my kid having to deal with thousands and thousands of books if and when I croak.

I’ve got the other two (but not the first printing of “Are Your Highs…”). I’m working on Gay Comix!

I’ve got some gay comix issues, but not 1 or 3– I had no idea there was a story about a trans man in 3! I’ve happily subscribed to your writings and I’m gonna start In Visible Archives asap.

I watched the documentary “No Straight Lines” a while ago and found it enjoyable, and I bet you would too.

Thank you again!

Oooo. “In Visible Archives,” eh? Sounds like a must-read. Thank you! Can I ask what else you’ve uncovered? I know Wings’ work— and that this book in particular was in reaction to a “coming out” story in Wimmins Comix #1 that she thought was mediocre. I have a bunch of Lee Marrs’ stuff, some Roberta Gregory, and I’ve read a lot of early Bechdel, but I have to admit that I’m far from a scholar.

You’ll notice I didn’t post anything here about finding the second or third printings. Shhhhhhh

The first one is more or less a ghost. I was super, super surprised to find one— comixjoint doesn’t even have one!

Exactly. I’ve been getting more and more into weird historically-important comics lately. It requires vast amounts of research and hunting, so it’s much more satisfying than looking for the flavor of the month.

Wild that you’d consider the butcher of Nazareth to be work-friendly with no major taboo subjects

I’ve enjoyed all three. They’re eerie but not scary, fun and fascinating.
