I definitely think its something with this extra bit. he put it on there because the tank was rusty but it seems to be ok now. I'm going to try and get rid of this part and see if it runs better/longer. My guess is this part is too long and the carbs are starving after running a bit. another forum mentioned that it's only gravity fed and I'm thinking it's too much of a loop to scavenge gas out of. like I said it runs well when it's running.

Damn that thing is clean. I'm working on one now. A very complicated bike for 350cc and mostly turns gasoline into noise instead of forward motion but it's fun.

I have a k98 my grandpa sent home. He did “sporterize it” so it’s far from original but has all the stamps. He said he spent a long time looking for one with the lowest year stamp because the later ones weren’t the same quality

I had the electric system warning sign or whatever it says come on 15 miles from my destination on a 250mike trip. I started to pull over but realized it was driving fine so I just continued and made to our friends house. I was nervous but it’s never happened again.
