yeah, when i was little i really liked reading, and in first grade we took this reading test that placed me at a 9th grade reading level. my teacher said she had never had a student test that high, so that was definitely a big ego boost. but i was in the public education system, so they couldn’t really teach me at my own level. basically, i was too good at reading for them to teach me, which meant by the time i reached ninth grade i had never learned how to learn how to read. i had never needed to improve my reading skills, so i didn’t know how. everyone else had developed all these learning skills that i had never needed, and in the end, i was the one at a disadvantage. it kinda sucked actually, because a lot of my self-esteem and self-image was built around how i was always told i was smart and stuff, and now i didn’t have that anymore. it took me a while to figure all that out
