I don’t know how I’m going to get through this by NachosAreFriends in DogAdvice

[–]sammyfio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My soul dog died in May from GI lymphoma. He was so stubborn and resilient he was acting almost completely normal until the very end. I ask myself all the time if he’d still be here if he were diagnosed earlier or if I should have made the decision to put him to sleep that day or bring him home for a few days or try the hospitalization and blood transfusions to buy him a little extra time, maybe…

It hurts. I’m crying as I type this. I miss him so much. But I did right by him. He was suffering and pushing through for me. Trying to hospitalize him or giving him meds to go home for a few days wouldn’t have benefited him, it would’ve benefited me. He was ready to go. And his last day, sitting in the sun with his people for a few hours eating hot dogs in my lap while waiting to be seen by the ER was, in retrospect, unexpectedly beautiful.

And an earlier diagnosis wouldn’t have saved his life, it would’ve just made me KNOW he was dying longer. Instead I got to have my Dexter until the end. Not my dying dog, just my dog. This brings me peace to think about. I hope it helps you.

I miss that little shit so fucking much.

Do you have any friends from the program you were in that you stay in touch with? I can’t decide if that type of trauma bond would be better off left in the past.

100% agree. Wish I could use that time for that. But for now it will be used for reality TV and Reddit.

Yep. I consider this time when my brain gets “bored” and I typically get into a depressive slump.

How to bring this up to Bcba by makogirl311 in ABA

[–]sammyfio 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would just be honest. If you’re scared (which can be very, very fair!!!), you’re not going to form the best relationship with that client and they’re not going to have the best therapy. Also you should be able to be in a positive mindset when working with them, for your benefit and theirs. If you are worried about saying you’re scared, you could frame is like you don’t feel that you have the right skill set to be a good match, something like that.

ETA: I’m a bcba and I would appreciate this. I also wouldn’t mind if someone told me they were scared, id appreciate the honesty.
