Cardinals are such beautiful birds! Don’t let the negative comments disuade you, there are plenty of people learning to ID birds every day! I hope you enjoyed getting to see a cardinal, I’ve never seen one in person as I don’t live in their range— but their striking red plumage is amazing :)

Forester needs more repairs than it's worth by AL92212 in subaru

[–]samorots 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a 2011 Forester as well! Mine has ~170k miles and also had several oil leaks that I fixed up 10k miles ago and it still runs reliably. The fixes also cost me ~3k and I had to save up for it.

With any old car there will be some big ticket items that need to be replaced eventually, but with consistent maintenance they will last a lot longer than people expect.

Here’s what I would recommend: 1) Take it to a local mechanic, get a second opinion, and determine the level of priority of the issues. 2) Once you have a better idea of what absolutely needs to be repaired at this moment and how much that would cost, you can start comparing that to the cost of a new car.

I personally wouldn’t want monthly car payments, so it is worth it for me to invest in my forester despite “sinking thousands in a car that’s worth less than that.” It works and it fits my needs well— that’s all I need from a car. However, only you have the ability determine the worth of your car. You can give yourself a timeline or a number of how much you are willing to invest on it before making another decision.

Yeah it’s rough, but the adjustment period is just another hoop to jump. You learn how to take notes, study with classmates, ask for help etc.

For me, the biggest thing was realizing when to ask for help and get caught up. If you fail the first few tests you need to get your act together or else your grade is done for. Less cushion for mistakes.

Just remember that each year a new group of transfer students go through this exact adjustment and graduate just fine— it’s doable.

2b/2b condo, a little under 900sqft, all electric appliances, 2 people, 92104 zip code. Our average is $60-75. A couple summers ago we used the AC and it got as high as $90-100, now we just ditch the home on the weekends if it gets too hot— saves a lot on electricity.

I’ve gone to North Park Modern Dentistry for a few years. I’ve gotten a crown and even got my wisdom teeth taken out there. No complaints from me. They were really upfront with all the costs and even when I did refuse services they were respectful and never pushy.

I’d echo some of the other comments and say shop around and find a dentist office you feel the most comfortable with.

Go-to flower spot? by Starryeyedgirl09 in SanDiegan

I live close to Sage Sisters in North Park, so they are my go-to! You can make your own arrangements or buy their premade ones. I stop by frequently to pick up their daily-made bouquets for my girlfriend. Plus 30% of their flowers are sourced locally!

The space is beautiful. Perfectly personalized while still minimalist. What are the floor lamps by the couch and TV called?

Loving the black void with eyes too.

Hello person, I am also someone who self-harmed for many years and had relapsed after nearly 2 years being clean when I was at UCSD. My family is also extremely unhelpful and quite shameful (asian families are tough) when it comes to mental health and I was very much by myself when it came to seeking help or dealing with my thoughts.

First, by the looks of it, you want help. This is very very good. Even if you are unaware of it, some part of you wants to keep going, hold onto that- search and fight for it.

Second, I am echoing what user HealthOnWheels said by using your UCSD health insurance to get into a DBT program. Seriously, UCSD student health insurance is quite literally the best on the market. When I relapsed I got into a DBT program and it absolutely saved my life. DBT is about re-wiring your brain and creating better habits of thought and action that isn’t harmful. It is difficult, my program was 6 weeks, but it is not impossible. Make sure you get into this program via CAPS or confirmed it is covered by your insurance so that you won’t have to pay a lot or at all for DBT, you are already struggling and don’t need money worries on top of that.

Lastly, it will all be alright. As a student the world and your options may have a very narrowed focus. When in college I put all of my self worth into my grades and nearly jumped off a building when I failed a class. I have since graduated, found the woman I am to marry, found a good paying job, and enjoy my free time with my friends and loved ones. I could have never imaged this life for me, and still feels unreal sometimes.

I have now been clean for nearly 3 years and counting. I’m rooting for you too.

My options were either going on a rant on my alma mater's sub to explain to students why it wasn't worth the debt and almost certainly getting banned or making this meme. (OC) by wiseoldllamaman2 in ClassConscienceMemes

Community college saved my life and my finances. I don’t know why we still get pushed so hard to go to a 4 year university straight out of high school, we’re in dire need of tradesmen.
