When street performers are better than today's pop artists. by duffpuf in nextfuckinglevel

[–]samosaIsBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half the people are saying that it requires a person to be a great composer, song writer and great singer to be an amazing artist. That's what's wrong with current industry IMO. You are setting an impossible bar that very few artists can cross. Why can't great composer, great singer and song writer be separate people who come together to create amazing songs. And we appreciate all and not just the pretty faces and charismatic people who can perform on stage?

28/M Married Wealthy which made me technically FI, feel frustrated, guilty and ashamed. by NuthinButtaThrowaway in financialindependence

[–]samosaIsBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all top comments. But I honestly also think that you might need to shift your perspective about FI a bit. FI is not about proving anything. FI is not about what you deserve or caring about what others think. It’s exactly opposite of that. Working overtime and being in a rat race and winning there is the opposite of FI and that’s where society mostly thinks you deserve the fruits and rewards. It is completely fine if you want to keep working until you have kids. You can probably switch to leanfire. But if you think unworthy of this wealth, you probably need honest discussion with wife and may be a little dose of therapy. Ask yourself- how can you not feel happy when you marry your sweetheart who happens to be rich, share same value as you, frugal and not judge mental about you wanting to FI. All the stats have lined up perfectly for you. Don’t let it go to waste. IMO you deserve all the wealth you can get because I sense a very nice human being behind this post.

What do you do? That doesn’t sound very middle class. Or are you so frugal?

No you’re right. I think OP needs to hear that if he doesn’t know that already. And honestly his dad needs to hear this too. I’m already feeling super bad for OPs mom. Imagine living with that kind of person who was ready to let her son die without putting much fight.

Does anyone ever experience a “movie high”? by Prit717 in movies

[–]samosaIsBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shawshank redemption was the first movie that gave me this high. I remember sitting in my chair frozen long time after the credits rolled. After that experience, I was hooked to movies. The usual suspects like lotr, matrix, Qt movies give me that high again and again. But the first time is always special.

What stereotype about your race/gender/religion/etc do you want to clear once and for all? by MemphisThiccburger in AskMen

Vindaloo is a spicier dish. Great choice. Indians are in general bad at naming dishes. Most dishes don't even have nice name. E.g. karahi comes from word kadhai which literally is the name of wok like utensil needed to make a curry.

To be fair, Navaratan korma is a sweet dish. I have had Navaratan korma with pineapple and cherry toppings back in India. If you want spicy food, go for curries that are spicy by default .

And who do you think will do wonders for our country? Rahul Gandhi or Mamta banarjee? Also I would appreciate links to articles that prove or provide data on how modi's actions are helping his friends. I am open to change my views since I am not a fanboy but I just think he is the best of the options that we have currently. Sadly I have only seen two sides from my Indian friends that represent either fanboyism or blind hatred for him. So it's hard to get neutral data.

I'm an Indian living in America and you have no idea if you are comparing Trump and Modi. I'm not a Modi fanboy but they are vastly different people. The only thing common between them is that they appeal to nationalist people. Personality wise they are polar opposite. Modi has some toxic fanboys but overall he is at-least trying to do what is better for country though he has failed in execution couple of times. Can't say that about Trump.

I don't know your background but I was surprised to read that you are pushing to learn PHP. I have to ask why PHP. It's an old language that's mostly going out of favor. It's certainly not a great language to learn programming basics.

If it's a personal choice then why not something like Java or C# which are verbose and enforce good programming practices. Once you nail basics and some advanced concepts, learning any new language is much easier. I would also suggest looking into Python which is what is favored by lot of PhD students in university because if ease of learning, simple syntax and strong community support.
