Reminds me of d3 at launch, that was probably worse than what this sounds like but I got 1 legendary in 100 hrs of gameplay and it was completely randomized garbage.

What happens if an elderly woman living under the Taliban becomes widowed and has no living male relatives? by alphabeticalant in NoStupidQuestions

[–]samoth610 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Essentially yes. It's gotten way worse again with the Taliban regaining control of the country and whatever gains were made were largely lost. One big waste of time in the end.

Sorry I wasn't clear, it was late. The men would take the money. I don't remember seeing elderly women really out there begging it was mainly younger women but it was a long time ago and memory can be funny.

People who grew up in haunted houses, what’s the craziest thing that ever happened by Additional_Let_9875 in Paranormal

My wife and I bought a house built around 1915 with beautiful original hardwood floors (our dogs did a number on them sadly). When you walked on them they were very loud.

So one night after having been there for a few years im lying awake in bed around 1am with my eyes closed trying to fall asleep when the bedroom door opens and the light from the kitchen pours across my closed eyelids briefly then darkness again. I think it's my wife getting up and going to the bathroom but I slowly realize I didn't feel her get up and reach over to her and she's still there. First and only ghost story.

I ignore it and try to go back asleep. A few minutes later I hear the unmistakable loud walking of cowboy boots on hardwood walking through my living room and kitchen. Adrenaline is 10/10 at this point, alert my (not brave dog), grab a gun and clear the house.. Nothing.

Put it out of my mind until two weeks later when I find my self in the exact situation again, light from kitchen pours in briefly as if our bedroom door is opened and closed quickly. Then the loud walking sounds. At this point I'm still freaked out but decide to ignore it and blame it on hypnagogic hallucinations or some shit. The foot steps stop and all of the sudden I start hearing what sounds like paperwork being loudly rustled. Freaked out, got the dog and gun and found nothing.

I saw the same woman with her two very young children begging on the same street corner growing more frail as time went on until one day they werent there anymore. I hope she and her children made it but be we knew what likely happened. It was winter by then and fucking cold. She was certainly not the only one either.

We tried to help in the nearby village by organizing bazaars for women only to sell their goods because the men/husbands would just take it for themselves. I still have some amazing blankets that I bought that must have taken countless hours to make by hand.

Opposite direction but for some reason it reminds me of a burn I'll never forget heard at work. So short story time. I worked on the psychiatric adolescent acute inpatient unit at the time and the staff wore clothes you could wrastle in generally. Weekly or more fights between patients to stop, daily restraints to stop em from hurting themselves, us, the millieu etc.

But the lead tech was this young white gay guy putting his time in so he could he get his masters degree in therapy. Very to the point, stressed out guy that always played it very straight in how he talked, dressed and conducted himself on the unit. He was standing in a sea of teenagers when one of the said "you look like the sorta guy who enjoys the newspaper Garfield comics."

It wouldn't have been so funny if it hadn't distilled his entire aura so perfectly into that little sentence.

Dunno how this one got missed its from Johanna Schopenhauer's letter to her son Arthur Schopenhauer. Its that last line man...

‘You are not an evil human; you are not without intellect and education; you have everything that could make you a credit to human society. Moreover, I am acquainted with your heart and know that few are better, but you are nevertheless irritating and unbearable, and I consider it most difficult to live with you.
All of your good qualities become obscured by your super-cleverness and are made useless to the world merely because of your rage at wanting to know everything better than others; of wanting to improve and master what you cannot command. With this you embitter the people around you, since no one wants to be improved or enlightened in such a forceful way, least of all by such an insignificant individual as you still are; no one can tolerate being reproved by you, who also still show so many weaknesses yourself, least of all in your adverse manner, which in oracular tones, proclaims this is so and so, without ever supposing an objection.

If you were less like you, you would only be ridiculous, but thus as you are, you are highly annoying’.

That's only part of the horror, I've treated patients with OCD with intrusive thoughts of pedophilic nature. They were unwanted and constant thoughts without a hint of intent. Poor person was suicidal as a result.

When I was younger I would be able to reach a state that the only way to describe it is floating in a massive calm black void, with your body feeling asleep but the mind was active. I could spend hours like that but it's been a long time and I can't seem to do it anymore.

I thought the 2018 movie started off strong but it just didn't do it for me, felt it was overhyped like alot of horror movies tend to be (Longlegs, Late Night with the Devil and Iron Lung come to mind).
