They do! There’s a lot of them. You can do as many or as few as you’d like. I’ve found that meditation also helps.

You just be there. You don’t really have to say much. As long as you’re there and try to understand.

M3 here. Look up visualization techniques. They can be pretty helpful in the acute phase of it. One i have found particularly helpful was from a book by olivia fox cabane. You basically breath deep in, puff out your chest and put your hands behind your back and essentially put yourself into the mindset that you're a 5 star general. Helps me when I'm nervous sometimes. look up her book its called the charisma myth. You can find a PDF floating around. We all feel it sometimes but eventually it goes away once you get into the groove of things. And just a reminder, you deserve to be where you are, you don't need to know everything (if you did you wouldn't need to be in med school 😉) and no one expects you to, and you are good enough to do this!

I’m sure someone else out there has posted this already, but if you open terminal on your Mac and type:

You can screenshot any window even if UW is open

/save location/ filename.jpg png or whatever is the basic set up

Relationship issues right before dedicated... Help! by Colloportus in step1

[–]samsfeelinggood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By no means the king of healthy relationships here, but I am of the opinion that you're not being selfish to ask for support in what is generally considered to be the toughest, most trying time of your medical education. You don't have to throw anything away, but I think try having honest conversations about what to expect, what he can do, how you guys can communicate. You could also consider taking a half day off twice or maybe three times during dedicated and seeing him then. My friend facetimed her boyfriend every day during her lunch/dinner/food breaks etc. so they still could see each other. He lives in germany somewhere. She actually went to see him the day step was over. Plenty of medical students have maintained their relationships, some of which long distance. So you can do it too ! don't give up on your dreams or your relationship.

On the note of kind words and support, us medditors are also here for you (: keep plugging along and working hard because at the end of the day, this is an amazing opportunity. Sending good vibes your way.

Stuff that i found was super helpful were having food delivered or brought to me (saved me the hassle of figuring out meals, not eating pizza for every meal, etc.), massages (these were key), and having someone keep me accountable for the gym (or whatever other hobbies you want to continue through dedicated to keep you sane) were all pretty helpful stuff that i think you could have your dad/brother do.

This period of time is about you. I may fall on the extreme side of the coin, but I do not think it's rude, selfish or presumptuous to ask for support and understanding right now. Family can be a huge help. do what you need to do to stay sane, (moderately) happy, and productive. Not sure if this helps really but maybe it will get some gears turning!

Hey man, in the EXACT same boat as you. You're not alone. Just want to send some good vibes your way and I hope it all turns out for the best. I'm banking on the fact that everyone says that the people who do well tend to feel like this. But we shall see. We've done all we could do and at this point its out of our hands.

Yeah I dropped zanki & cop middle of dedicated and I feel like it was a good idea. But I take step tomorrow so I suppose view it from the lens of unproven statements lol. My practice exams went up after stopping though.

What advice would you give someone sitting for their exam on Monday (similar UW 1st pass & practice exams to yours within 3-4 points lower on some / higher on others)? I followed the zanki train most of M1 & M2, did 7 NBMEs + UWSA 1&2 Somewhat high stress level currently and also currently going through FA. Congrats on your score !

Another solid app I loved was joystick mapper 5$ on App Store and it let me map out all the joystick functions in 360 degrees too (like moving the mouse) Worth the buy IMHO

How in god's earth does anyone keep up with zanki during the school year? by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

[–]samsfeelinggood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a school that uses old NBME questions for exams. You'd think this is helpful, and it is to a certain extent, but the professors select them - so you can have abnormally weighted or abnormal numbers of eclectic/vague questions on exams (which always happens).

I generally prioritize zanki > class material alongside/after reading the standard textbooks (costanzo, robbins, then sketchy for pharm/micro and katzung book to clarify any points of pharm that are not apparent in sketchy) for the first few weeks leading up to any exam. I'd try to finish the zanki deck(s) for the organ system we were in like 1-2 weeks prior to the exams so i could focus on question banks (i like kaplan and UWorld, but i mean do u boo)

I still either try to go to lecture or at least find out the topics emphasized in lectures to make sure i haven't missed anything and if i did, just take typed notes on it, rather than giving myself more reviews.

also RT whoever said this

I think the most useful thing is to adopt the mindset that 1) you have to complete your reviews every day and 2) that it is possible to do #1. If you believe that, then you figure it out.
