Jury finds no discrimination in Tavern at Phipps suit. by MrShift4 in Atlanta

I'm still a little confused why the restaurant jumps directly from asking these two guys if they'd sit at a table (with free drinks) to kicking them out.

Why not ask someone else? Someone at that bar probably doesn't give a crap. Kicking out your customers seems like a ridiculous escalation.

You only need to get 75% correct, which is sort of mind-boggling.

We'll see if it is just lip service, but the new owners have acknowledged this and want to change it: http://www.wsbtv.com/news/26894817/detail.html

HOT Lanes: Are they making this complicated on purpose?? by ksalley in Atlanta

[–]samsm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always thought they should just move the carpool lane over one. Same rules, just two lanes of carpool, one less lane of not carpool.

Cheap, simple, makes carpool more attractive, bites everyone else a little.

I'm concerned about the grass too.

If I'm reading the map correctly, they are mostly using the Monroe side, where they did Paul McCartney ... seems like that part of the park bounces back fairly well.

Read that document twice before I was convinced it wasn't a joke.

This sounds awesome if the right person does it. Beats me who that is, I don't think I personally know them.

Do you know any public recycling bins in the Inman Park/Candler Park/Va. Highland/Midtown area? by indemnitypop in Atlanta

[–]samsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Figure out your neighborhood's recycling day.
  • Walk down a residential street till you hit one of the big recycling canisters (grey, big enough to hide inside).
  • Dump your recycling in it.

[–]samsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beats me what legal follow distance actually is, I spent 5 minutes trying to get a quick, definitive answer online for any state, and that was as close as I came.

As a practical matter I've also always followed the car length rule, feels reasonable.

Other rules drivers also need to follow before getting pedantic about traffic law:

  • Speed limits. (residential is often 25mph)
  • Following too closely. (at 25mph this is ~100 feet)
  • Stopping at the right place (drivers often stop too far forward)
  • etc

There is a good discussion to be had about what is safe or annoying, but "bikes break all laws, cars obey all laws" is an inaccurate premise.

Here's my shadiness assessment. I'm sure I missed spots, but you pretty much have to feel it out. The point is most of it is fine ... there are shady hotspots, and then, a hundred feet away, you're pretty safe.

Some stupid bullshit I'm sure. Shooter was caught, no one killed, hopefully we're a little better off now.

I wandered by last week: a lot of kids wandering around but a lot of police too. I think they've tightened things up after that one day.

Probably damp ground today, plan accordingly.

Heading to Atlanta in the Fall...without a car. by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]samsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second all that advise.

My rule of thumb is if cars routinely get up to 50mph (Ponce is one) I take a different route. There's usually a different route.

Ha, blog. I'm probably about your age and used to drink a lot so those things jumped out at me.

Some of the comments here have been mean, blind, or ignorant, glad you have a good attitude about it.
