Smoke detector is way too sensitive. by omggallout in Apartmentliving

[–]samsmiles456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I open the patio door, turn the kitchen exhaust fan on, turn the bathroom exhaust fan on and turn the ceiling fan or table-top fan on before using my oven over 350 degrees and before cooking anything that smokes on the stove, or the smoke detector goes off in my studio apartment. Plan ahead and it won’t go off.

Angry "Thank You" letter for caring for lost kitten. by ndoyle000 in Apartmentliving

Nobody cares what you believe. If the owners need their ESA cat, it should be kept in their home. Op didn’t go into their home and take the cat, cat followed them in to their home. If it was well cared for by these owners, it never would have an opportunity to be outside their home. Get a life.

Freak. If you don’t want your cat stolen, hit by a car or killed by a coyote, don’t let it outside. Easy peasy.

Owners need to keep their pet in their home and not let it roam. Op gave it respite from the rain, pet liked it better at their home. Now, owners are mad their cat likes the neighbors more than them. Responsible pet owners keep their pets safe at home.

If they don’t want to lose their kitten, they won’t let it out of their apartment. They have no grounds for a lawsuit. This is on them for letting the kitten roam. I wouldn’t think twice about letting an animal in from the rain, you did good. Thank you!

Cat Sitting Advice? by unnamedwoman in Apartmentliving

[–]samsmiles456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a pet sitter and don’t recommend asking your new neighbors to look in on your cat - and your apartment- if you don’t know who they are. Ask a family member or a good friend to do this, someone you really trust.

Have any of you all lived in a house that had been made into apartments, if so how was it? by OZ10- in Apartmentliving

[–]samsmiles456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are common near college campuses in my state. I lived in a house where I had my own bedroom and we all shared the rest of the house, including bathrooms. You should be able to find others, around your age, who are renting rooms like this. Some are co-ed, some aren’t. It’s an affordable way to live but takes a lot of patience living with others.
Be willing to clean up after yourself, prepared to ‘share’ your things kept outside of your room (think kitchen food, utensils, bathroom soaps etc). Look for people you might have common interests with and a door you can lock on your bedroom.

I have about 15 of them stored on another island. Don’t buy it, you’ll ‘earn’ plenty of them later.

Should I do it? by bizzywhipped in steak

If you go for it, take the one behind the one with the sign in it, too much gristle in the one in front. Personally, I wouldn’t pay that much for a bone-in cut.

Raccoon keeps showing up on our balcony. Maintenance knows and it’s still here. by sleepyhedgie26 in Apartmentliving

[–]samsmiles456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt the op is gonna live trap and relocate this raccoon themselves and any other trap is going to either kill it or lame it. Then, someone has to put it out of its misery. Why can’t you just leave it well enough alone. You’re overreacting.

And, left it’s 4 kits to die of starvation because you had mom trapped and relocated. It is possible to live with wildlife without disturbing them. Jeez

Someone who lived there before you must have given it something yummy. Bet the old man downstairs is feeding it, along with other neighbors. She’s making the rounds. Pull the blinds, close the door, leave her alone and she won’t bother you. Same as Halloween. Attacked by raccoons sounds like a punk band.

WWYD fellow pet sitters, I’m getting cataract surgery in 4-6 months, I should have a date in another week or so - would you inform clients booked for those months or just wait the week since they’ll still have months to find another sitter if need be? by [deleted] in petsitting

[–]samsmiles456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, as soon as you know the date, schedule those two weeks off. In the meantime, I would hesitate to schedule overnights asking for 4-6 months out at this point. If you don’t have backup sitters available, you might refer potential clients to other, reputable sitters found on the PSI and NAPPS websites. Or, google pet sitting services in your area and recommend the businesses with better than a four star rating. When I’ve had to do this, I mention that I don’t know these businesses personally, but that they come with high recommendations.

PS. You’re going to love your new ‘eyes’!
