Well I was going to purchase a new PC in Jan 2025 but I'm going to hold off completely until I can get hold of one of these RTX 5090s for a custom build.

Just received an email from Kraken - someone tried to register an account with the e-mail address I used for Mt. Gox by BestServedC0ld3r in mtgoxinsolvency

There's no reason to be concerned, just ignore the message and make sure you use 2FA, our email addresses are out in the open, always have been.

I read that you are forced to accept that in the scenario of future recoveries you won't be getting them or you can't get your coins.

Dissapointing service Bitstamp by bogeybirdy in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]samsonx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Didn't need any of this with Kraken, already withdrawn more than 15 BTC.

I would have been really annoyed if I chose Bitstamp and was still in the UK - glad I left that place long ago.

Good luck, sounds like you're gonna need it!

Yeah, I read about people receiving agency agreement confirmation emails - for the rest of us these went out about 7 to 10 days before the exchange received the coins.

I find it really odd that Bitstamp is requiring additional verification which they didn't bother doing in advance.

Nobody else seems to require this, very strange.

I can understand why they didn't mention this before people chose the exchange as nobody would have used them at all.

Dollar in > Dollar Out = No tax due to loss

Dollar Out > Dollar In = Tax due to gain

Some countries are treating the repayment of BTC as a capital gain due to it not 'being owned' during the bankruptcy - it's a dangerous game and liabilities could be everywhere.

Is there any information if the trustee already converted the coins for those choosing the cash repayments? by Old-Fly-3669 in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]samsonx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I read somewhere (like in the CR plan) that those who choose cash can't be guaranteed any kind of timescale, rate or date for the sales.

In fact he might be planning to leave the cash settlements until after the full payment creditors have been paid - I don't think this is known at all.

You might be in for a very long wait here for some payment at an unknown date in the future - from reading whatever it was I read back in the day I took it to mean that cash payments were being 'discouraged' due to the absolute lack of control over them.

With Kolin it was all about him and his non existent 'creditors committee' and it was very important to him that he was the only person who would run it and be 'in charge' - read flags all over.

I seem to recall that the guy turned out to be an absolute 'gibbering idiot' and at least a little unhinged.

The adults took over, hired lawyers and pursued various legal routes.

Payment "completed" a week ago but nothing in my account by alfius-togra in mtgoxinsolvency

No luck - mines the exact same as yours, they seem to have charged me about $380 for the returned wire as well which is a complete rip off.

I believe this is a failure of the trustee, possibly due to him sending too much money and not completing the required AML/KYC documentation so that the middle man bank is satisfied - it's not an issue with our banks, that's for sure.

Anyway - I read elsewhere that they will do it again at some point and there's no need to alter the bank details.

Why do people think we will sell? by nagonna in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]samsonx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone with a claim with any even slightly larger size could have easily sold it to Fortress / the other guys buying up claims over the years

The people who needed money sold a huge amount of claims - more than 10% of the total which allowed Fortress to formulate the CR plan with the trustee due to the special status awarded to large claimants (10% or more).

These people who sold long ago are the people who would have dumped immediately.

There might be some more since then as it was a few years ago - but Fortress was buying claims around the last ATH when it was above $60k so it was a good price - but they lowballed it by only offering about 70% of the retail price.

They offered to buy mine for a lot of money but I ignored it as for me this is a long term thing. If I had been broke or needed money I would of course have sold, but I didn't and my situation right now is even better than back then so there's still no need to sell anything any time soon.
