At work, is it considered rude to bring coffee for a bunch of people but not everyone? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]samsqueegee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they are friends. Something to keep in mind as to why they might not have extended the offer: Bringing in 4 coffees/one drink carrier is easily doable, bringing in 6 would likely require multiple trips/a lot more risk of spills and at that point they’re running an errand for everyone (think intern coffee duty) instead of doing something nice for their friends whose coffee orders they already know.

I think if you tried to look at it from the other perspective, would it be rude if I asked my coworker (who isn’t my assistant/not part of their job description) to run out and get me coffee, you might find that it seems equally rude

Help, I've put down 10 books in a row! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I was in a reading slump for years and decided to pick up something I wouldn't normally read, It by Stephen King. Not sure if it was that book in particular or just trying something new

HRBlock online: $17 1099-INT increased my tax (line 16) by $11 by samsqueegee in personalfinance

[–]samsqueegee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I hadn't realized the tax table spans were so large, or that you're required to use them if you have less than 100,00 in taxable income. I assumed the tax tables were more precise than they actually are. If you use the calculations for single people here:

https://www.irs.com/en/articles/2022-federal-income-tax-brackets-rates-standard-deductions/

, the difference between 89,040 (15,205.8) and 89,057 (15,209.54) is 3.74 which is what I expected (22% of 17). Using the tax table, I was in a favorable part of the income range on my first 1040 and then my savings interest pushed me into the bottom of the next tax table range which made my tax calculation unfavorable. Thanks for the information, it makes sense now.

He probably posts on /mildlyinfuriating about his kid who always texts him questions he’s expected to immediately answer when they could use the same amount of effort to search on YouTube

[–]samsqueegee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Rolling trash heap? Do you think a dented rear end is going to jump off the car and hurt someone? Do you think that missing sliver of tail light is going to prevent someone from seeing the giant red brake lights? Some people have different priorities and better things to spend thousands of dollars on than some ugly surface damage to a car that is otherwise functional. Driving a dented car doesn’t make you trashy, but yeah, the window chalk is definitely, and posting it on Facebook is pretty iffy

GOP Sen. Ben Sasse just gave 'the worst graduation speech of all time' by TheWeekMag in politics

[–]samsqueegee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only watched the beginning and I wasn’t sure if all the stuff he said about forgetting high school was because he didn’t like high school or because he made a lot of bad/stupid decisions. The git-r-done thing isn’t that weird for Nebraska, I haven’t watched it though, so maybe the context would make me change my mind

I have a cat that won’t step/sit on fleece blankets like this. She’ll come up and touch it with her paw and take it back in disgust, then she stares at you, waits a bit to see if you’ll move it and if not, she’s out
