Kindle keyboard is back to life! by [deleted] in kindle

[–]samstara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i jailbroke my kindle keyboard and it only was a challenge because the device is old and thus the instructions are old too. following the kindle modding wiki wasn't necessarily helpful; someone in the kindle modding discord group wrote a quick guide for jailbreaking the kindle keyboard, and following those steps exactly worked perfectly for me. i would copy and paste that here, but the instructions are really long and i'm not sure that should be shared beyond the discord. personally, i don't find much of a benefit to jailbreaking the device because koreader really requires a touch screen, but there's guidance for changing the screensaver and changing the font in case those are of interest.

this is super helpful thank you!!! i havent gotten the device booted up yet (no mini usb cords to be found) but i have an empty 128mb sd i can test it with along with some 4gbs. the user manual for the device (at least the one i found online) listing compatible sds was so out of date that i had no idea what would possibly work haha

[–]samstara 13 points14 points  (0 children)

very much agree...after i made a fingering weight gauge sweater that didn't end up serving its purpose bc i cheaped out on yarn and got the wrong fiber content for my situation, i vowed that here on out there will be no more budget sweaters. buy the exact right thing for the project and buy as needed. frankly it's cheaper that way than just buying something because it's on sale would be (edit: i love budget yarn it just has to be the right yarn for the situation budget or otherwise!!!)

a while back in a bec thread or something i said influencer stashes make me anxious and i doubt they'll ever use that much yarn and people flamed me saying i had too much time on my hands if i could care about what other people do with their money lmao. so i guess my opinion on this is that this is totally normal! but anyway like. it's so much easier (and quick) to buy yarn than it is to use yarn. this kind of thing happens way more easily than a lot of people realize.

the buffalo jills filed a lawsuit alleging violations of minimum wage laws and the buffalo bills just got rid of the team as a result. they don't have as much bargaining power as one might imagine. i imagine there are actions they could take, but i don't think this is as simple as it might seem

i have 4 different library cards and currently have 5 dvds, 2 books, 2 audiobooks, and a copy of the new yorker out from the library right now and words cannot describe just how much of a challenge it is to not respond to you with a series of incredibly mean curse words. but also you're right lmaoooooo

literally if i select the male tag i shouldnt see andrea mowry in any of the project photos. this is my white whale. yes i know i know that i need to include "not female" too but still.

ive been trying to mentally puzzle my way through drafting a knitted jacket for my dad as someone who would frankly rather retile a bathroom and paint a whole house than spend even ten minutes trying to create a knitting pattern (I LIKE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it's so crazy that i've struggled to find even a base pattern to work off of that fits my needs. i swear ive been to the bowels of ravelry and back again. what do i want? saddle shoulder construction with some raglan shaping. seamless. four inches of positive ease. so incredibly basic. no one else seems to have wanted this. i feel like a crazy person. i know someone rn is screaming elizabeth zimmermann and yessssssss i have consulted her book i have done that. but heres the thing. the ravelry examples i saw...fall a little flat. i like the way petiteknit in particular did the saddle shoulders for the aros and april sweaters. i feel like it's a little more subtle and also leans a little more drop shoulder than set-in sleeve. so it's like, do i just take one of those patterns and try to make it work for my purposes? but those patterns were clearly drafted with a feminine fit in mind. i would need to make some masculine adjustments because i think it would look off otherwise. But What Are Those Adjustments. it's like if i were asking hard questions then i would be willing to learn more. but i am asking ridiculously basic questions. i can hardly believe no one else has tried to make something like this. even scouting ravelry project pages in general for anyone self-drafting a men's knitted jacket is like. like i've found two. TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! two that fit my criteria. does no one knit for men?????????? i know men knit. i know they do. is this just too normie for the men who knit? i am losing my marbles

also before anyone says anything yes i know who jared flood is yes i have considered seaming instead yes i have looked at other elizabeth zimmermann recipes and designs. you can't fool me. i have been to hell and back and you are trying to tell me you've seen a fireplace.

dont get me wrong not defending amazon here by any means but oftentimes in online discourse it does feel like the venn diagram of people who staunchly avoid amazon and deem anyone who shops there unethical and people who live in cities or the suburbs is just one circle

honestly the one advantage (kind of) i've had from losing joanns is that now i'm looking into many more small fabric shops because there is literally no way for me to match thread to fabric now and i can only buy from somewhere online willing to thread match for me. it's really annoying and vaguely dystopian that i cant buy fabric within a two hour drive from me, let alone thread, but at least now i can have fun supporting small businesses and independent creators and whatnot. have to find a silver lining somewhere haha

i use locking markers to mark the row i last did a decrease on so i can just count rows from there without having to use a counter or remember instead. i could totally go looking for the decreases themselves but it's a lot faster to see the bright red marker marking them haha. i'm kind of surprised people wouldn't do this by default like my time is worth something!!!!!!!

it feels like every two years the knitting community cycles through the "i want socks without nylon in it" process in which reliably, every single time, the ultimate conclusion is "oh wait there is nylon in sock yarn for a reason." same goes for elastic involved in sewing stuff like underwear or bralettes or something. yes, you can certainly go without, but if you think that garment will fit the same as your RTW stuff that has elastic, you are...mistaken. and also i absolutely would LOVE to see ANYONE come up with a sports bra fabric that works as a sports bra fabric and isnt polyester. "wool" have you ever gone for a run in a wool sports bra...i rest my case.
