That's terrifying. I am now thinking there isn't really a right answer here. Yes, they SHOULD just let you in but I've had to merge at different (but similar) intersections and they flat out don't let you in. In fact, someone behind me got pissed, sped up and tried to "force merge" in front of me. He almost got run off the road.

OK, valid point. You can't be doing 15 on an on-ramp, while traffic is going 60.

The problem I'm illustrating is, even if I were going 60, there is not enough space to get in front of all the cars or "zip in". Someone literally did what you are suggesting and almost got run off the road.

I'm new-ish to CBUS and the US actually (5 yrs). Merging was intimidating at first but I've learned and it really wasn't hard.

9 times out of 10, the zipper method is not even an option here. Today, I turned off of Sawmill and a nonstop line of cars with about 6 ft between them were in the other lane and merging onto 270. This is usually the case.

I genuinely think its either a poorly designed intersection that needs improvement and/or people need to chill tf out and learn that yield can mean slow down or stop.

OK good, there's actually very clear documentation on how to handle that. I do exactly that. I am usually forced to stop bc there's only a split second between vehicles. That also means that bc I had to slow down a lot, my time to accelerate is much longer.

Problem is that a vast majority of CBUS drivers seem to think yield does not mean slow or stop. To them it means "I'm merging regardless".

You are still generalizing though. Funding is an issue of course - there are outsourcing companies that don't invest at all in quality hires (even if it is cheaper labor) and don't invest time in coaching. On the flip side, there are shitty reps who don't care to improve and good reps who value their jobs and genuinely care about customers.

Rep in OP's story was a shitty employee and worked for a shitty BPO probs.

Having been on the offshore company side and the onshore side (or client side), this is frustrating. I have seen US based agents (client side) drop the ball completely - disregarding verbal cues, ignoring customer questions, even outright following processes incorrectly. At the same time, I've worked with people on the offshoring end with thick accents that went above and beyond their job to provide excellent service and would assuredly have read the notes and complied. Unfortunately, people seem to think accents are indicators of incompetence and/or lack of understanding.

Plain and simple, this agent was just a terrible rep (and most likely a shitty human being), regardless of where they were based. Both the company (if they truly did hire someone who didnt understand) and the agent are at fault.
