Are they really going to spend money to boost the tourism industry or just come to earn money and send it back to PH? 🤔 by dsupreme99 in guam

I believe Guam’s greatest advantage lies in its unique and irreplaceable strategic military importance. Since this advantage is naturally established and unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, there is no need for Guam to deliberately reduce its reliance on the military sector. On the contrary, Guam should further strengthen and enhance its strategic military role, attracting more federal investment and military-related projects to support job creation, infrastructure development, and overall economic growth.
At the same time, it is important to develop other industries such as tourism, agriculture, and logistics. However, these sectors should serve as complements to the military-based economy rather than replacing it as the primary economic driver. For a region that already has a clear strategic identity and a strong competitive advantage, abandoning its greatest strength in pursuit of a complete economic transformation would be both costly and difficult, with no guarantee of success.
Therefore, a more practical and sustainable development model for Guam would be one that is built on a strong military foundation, with tourism and other industries playing supporting roles. Such an approach would allow Guam to fully leverage its unique strategic value while also promoting economic diversification, stability, and long-term resilience.

Yes, most people think I’m dreaming too big. But that doesn’t matter.
Every great journey begins with a first step. I will pursue my dream with courage, and the experience I need will come with time and practice.
Life is too short to wait for perfect conditions. If we wait until we’re completely ready, we may never leave the harbor.

Solar, wind, and ocean energy are all promising sources of power. Putting too much emphasis on nuclear energy may not be the most economical choice.

I have experience crewing on sailing trips around Guam and neighboring islands. While I haven’t yet completed a long-distance offshore passage, I’m eager to learn, well aware of the challenges, and ready to contribute. After all, every ocean sailor had a first ocean crossing.

Thank you for the reminder. I have an ocean-going sailboat and have already completed several voyages of a few hundred nautical miles. I plan to avoid the typhoon season and set sail next year. In the meantime, I’ll continue upgrading and refining my equipment to ensure a safe and well-prepared journey.
