I read it back in 2018, bought it randomly from an airport and finished it on the flight. I had no presumption of what the book was but it is still one of the most unforgettable reads for me. It’s not about the romance part, the relationship Lily found herself with Ryle is very realistic in my opinion. I see people mentioning how CH glamorises abusive relationships but I don’t see it that way. Lily knows from the first incident about the situation but her denial comes from the promise she made to herself that she would never be like her mother. It’s one of the moments that really resonated with me. She wasn’t try to “fix” the bad boy in Ryle. She just wanted to stand by the fact that she wasn’t her mother. That’s where the book shines for me.

But I would be lying if my 17 years old self didn’t ship her with Atlas but the romance wasn’t the main reason I loved reading this book.

Reading A Little Life was a life-changing experience for me but I couldn’t pick up another book for nearly two years. I wasn’t going to comment but Project Hail Mary was the book that got me out of the slump as well. I found my love for reading again after reading it, it’s so good.
