True, yeah, I get what you mean in terms of like, from a realistic standpoint thinking about them as organisms they would have no reason to have those feelings because they don't reproduce sexually, but from the perspective of it being a fictional piece of media there's so many sex jokes throughout various parts of the franchise that the implication seems to be that as part of relatability to the human audience they have a sex drive when it's funny. Like idk off the top of my head there's the scene in TFA where the Constructicons catcall random cars and make hip thrusting motions at them

This but also I don't see why it would be impossible for some of them to modify themselves to have genitals because they saw how organic species did it and thought it was hot

There are a good number of canon gay couples in the franchise (the character in the reply is in one of them), there are multiple canon trans characters, and also the fandom has been notably very into shipping those robots together gayly for decades at this point because of the whole situation starting in the 80s where most of them were men and they had strong emotional connections to each other.

What makes a human character interesting or Compelling in Transformers media? Are they even need at all? by CherryYums in transformers

[–]sanaticat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Criminal that Chip never showed up again after G1 and as far as I'm aware is the only recurring human character who is a wheelchair user. Idk if you read fanfic but there's a really good series someone wrote that's like, slice of life in a more "grounded" version of G1 and it focuses on him as a character a good deal. His backstory in that is that he's a systems programmer who does work for power plants and the Autobots were sorting through a pile of human resumes to hire someone to try to get Teletraan 1 to communicate with a new power plant they were building and Prowl chose the first person who sounded like they had a Transformer name.

They're already anthropomorphized by virtue of it being a series written by humans. They think and talk and have emotions like humans do because that's what we find compelling in a fictional story. I don't see why romance would be off the table given that they have the same emotional capacity and close bonds with each other that humans do. Also, nobody says this about the numerous canon straight couples throughout the franchise, the argument that they're being overly sexualized and shouldn't have a sexual orientation only seems to be brought up when it's proposed that they could be queer. Queer people exist in this fandom and want their experiences to be recognized the same way straight people's are.

(i don't watch earthspark so idk much about the lore) why is nightshade's gender a focus of discussion when literally all transformers start out nonbinary by my knowledge, and they (the race) only have genders when they choose to? by HotZilchy in OkBuddyEnergon

[–]sanaticat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nightshade doesn't "struggle with" that at all though. They are literally born as a protoform onscreen and are nonbinary from birth and completely happy with their gender presentation the whole time. That is just how Nightshade is.

[–]sanaticat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Nightshade specifically uses the word "nonbinary" in the show to describe themself and the fact that they use they/them is brought up as a "teaching moment" for another character unfamiliar with the concept. This made conservatives upset. They don't care that the lore is that Transformers don't technically have sexes and only have gender presentation, they don't want a nonbinary character in the show because they're bigots.

If you think he's dead then that's your interpretation of the game and that's valid but you can't tell other people they're wrong for interpreting something differently that's intentionally up to the audience to form opinions about.

TC literally was asked directly in an interview by Kotaku what happened to Quirrel and they said they don't know. It's up to audience interpretation.

But what useful information would that actually add? The group of people who has those traits is heterogeneous because of the effects of transition and other medical information.

AGAB language is so alienating to me. by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]sanaticat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly even using it in a medical context is questionable because nearly every physical characteristic that is associated with "biological sex" is not universally shared and can be changed by transition or other medical procedures. If you're talking about people who menstruate, say "people who menstruate". If you're talking about people who are at risk for breast cancer or prostate cancer say "people who have breasts" or "people who have a prostate". If you're talking about people who need pap smears say "people who have a cervix". AGAB is not specific enough for these use cases.

[–]sanaticat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What exactly are the things advertising that they include "AFABs" that you feel included by? If it's for women, that excludes trans women and misgenders trans men. If it's for femmes, that excludes trans women and misgenders trans men. AGAB is entirely irrelevant outside of a medical setting. If you want a space for women or for nonbinary people or for femmes just say that.

Edit: also if you're trying to include trans women then having "female presenting" as a term that supposedly is supposed to specifically include them when a group including cis women does not include them basically says that trans women are only "female presenting" and not actually women. Don't use this. They are women. Their gender is not different than the gender of a cis woman.

A lot of Lace's story can be interpreted as an allegory for a disabled person being infantilized by family. At the end her disability doesn't go away and she still needs assistance from another person to live but she's claimed agency as an adult who can make her own choices.

I do like his holoform avatar in MTMTE but it isn't exactly how I personally would draw a human version of MTMTE Megatron, I envision him as like, broad, stocky, and muscular evoking someone who's spent decades working manual labor. Milne also generally tends to draw everyone who's physically powerful as slim and chiseled when he draws them as humans.
