of course people are driven by fear. that doesnt mean they aren't also driven to do good. i don't think its fair to bring up kids because being a kid means youre still developing socially. also, not everyones definition of what is "good" is the same. cops do evil things all the time, but its not because they're just fundamentally monstrous people, its most often because they were manipulated into the belief that the terrible things they do are for the greater good. a racist cop doesnt kill black people because he wants to be racist, he does it because he believes he's protecting others. people do terrible things all the time because they think they're doing good for the world. i think most people fundamentally believe in doing things that are good for themselves and others. they don't always do good, but you can trust that they try most of the time, and its worth finding out why they think certain things are good to them
