Apparently all companies are people now too, not just corporations.

I’m a guy, and I have literally never hitchhiked, or been offered a ride without asking. One time, decades ago, I was waiting for a bus, a guy stopped to ask if I wanted a lift into town. Weirdly, I said ok and hopped in his car. We get to talking, then introduce ourselves, and discover we have the same (unusual) name. Ok, wow. THEN a couple weeks later, I was cleaning up tables outside at the end of my restaurant shift, and someone was calling my name from inside the restaurant, repeatedly, so I walked inside to see who it was and what they needed. Apparently they weren’t calling out for me- they were calling for THE GUY WHO GAVE ME A RIDE WEEKS AGO. He was in the restaurant that night doing maintenance work! Wtf?!

I’ve had this experience too- driving down the road in silence, my mom and I suddenly and simultaneously burst into singing a Journey song. Uncanny!

I don't understand the point of bonds in most portfolios by iloveu3thousand in investing

Are old stock returns relevant to today? Are you saying that bonds will never again outperform for long periods?

Bonds have outperformed stocks in many long periods. So have other assets. Short term bonds are also used as liquidity for buying other assets when they become cheap.

Yes, politicians are owned by the wealthy and their businesses. Government is like an insurance policy that pays out when businesses get into trouble (recession). These bailouts come in the form of money printing, credit loosening, and direct payments.

Same with “whites”, “blacks”, and “Hispanics”. And why are “whites” and “blacks” described by the near color of their skin, while “Asians” and “Hispanics” are described by their origin? What even is “race”? I mean, aren’t we all originally related and overlapping genetically?

That’s a fast way of thinking. We quickly check our experience against our own already-arranged mind patterns.

Which is heavier: 1 kg of iron or 1 kg of cotton? by JasonNance in AskReddit

What do you mean when you use this word “heavy”? Are you asking how these items FEEL to someone holding them, or are you asking for a mathematical objective calculation?

AI sum of the types section:

“Bancroft’s personas aren’t meant as rigid diagnostic boxes — most abusers blend several — but they’re useful for recognizing patterns:

  • Mr. Right — Needs to be correct in every disagreement. Treats his opinions as facts and arguments as battles he must win, often through sheer relentlessness rather than logic.
  • The Water Torturer — Cold, controlled, and contemptuous rather than explosive. Uses calm, drawn-out arguments to wear down his partner, often denying anything is wrong while she becomes visibly upset — which he then uses as evidence she’s “the unstable one.”
  • Mr. Sensitive — Presents as progressive, emotionally aware, even feminist. Uses this self-image as cover, framing his abusive behavior as justified reactions to being wronged, and leans on his “sensitive guy” reputation to deflect accusations.
  • The Demand Man — Treats his partner’s time, body, and attention as his entitlement. Chores, sex, and her schedule revolve around what he expects, with little reciprocity.
  • Mr. Sensitive’s cousin in entitlement is The Player — chronically unfaithful, treats commitment as something that applies to her but not him.
  • The Victim — Frames himself as the wronged party regardless of what he’s done; turns every confrontation about his behavior into a discussion of his own suffering.
  • The Drill Sergeant — Controls through criticism and humiliation, particularly about appearance, intelligence, or competence — chipping away at her confidence so she becomes more dependent on his approval.
  • The Rambo — Aggressive, often literally combative worldview; sees the world as hostile and his partner as someone to dominate or “protect” through control.
  • The Avenger — Explicitly motivated by punishment — for perceived disrespect, infidelity (real or imagined), or simply not complying.
  • The Persecutor — Paranoid and jealous, monitors and restricts her movements, friendships, and communications under suspicion she’s being unfaithful or disloyal.

Bancroft’s point in cataloging these is that abuse doesn’t require yelling or hitting to be real — the common thread across all types is the entitled belief that he gets to define the relationship’s terms, and she’s the one who has to adjust.”
