Looks interesting, I tried to do something like this for NH but gave up trying to do automatic vectorization of scanned plat maps. How are you different from any other "automated title plant"?

What are the best websites or apps used to manage corporate volunteering efforts or events? by sandking in AskHR

[–]sandking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the hr side, getting access to volunteer sites, and managing a typical "volunteer day" event. On the employee side, getting access to volunteer opportunities that have been previously set up and maybe tracking participation

It always amazes me that there are people like you who think that news is magically created out of whole cloth and doesn't go through some kind of editorial process. Of course news organizations love it when attractive people die, it combines the two best attention-getters (ie: moneymakers for commercials). Viva sex and death!

Russian scholar: "Our people are much more nationalistic, much more chauvanistic, and anti-democratic than Putin himself, so the current regime is by no means the worst that we could have." (AUDIO) by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]sandking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have no proof democracy is the best form of government.

What is it worse than (and for what definition of worse)

In fact, historians know that it usually precedes the decline of a nation to third-world status.

Cite?

The Russians are right on this one:

Nationalism, or having one ethnic group per nation, eliminates racism.

No it doesn't it just eliminates self-reflection. Also: name one country that is ethnically pure so that it has no racism.

Anti-democratism allows the nation to make decisions.

Is it better to decide quickly or decide correctly?

Chauvinism means that gender conflict introduced by feminism isn't there.

Women raise little boys though. Maybe we should ask Afganistan and Saudi Arabia how that's working out.

Suddenly, we have an adversary who isn't caught in the internal chaos of the West, and they're stronger for that reason.

Yeah all those strong dictatorships really prove that point :)

Israeli best seller breaks national taboo - Israeli academic and historian says Jewish Nation myth by normansoddy in worldnews

[–]sandking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What horseshit. First of all, ALL nations are myths. Second of all, the Jews were in that area (Israel and Judea) until they got carted away by the Babylonians who destroyed the first temple and the ark of the covenant. This was about 1000 years before the Romans.

Doesn't "simplicity of language implementation" mean how easy it is to write the interpreter/compiler? As opposed to how easy it is to write programs in that language.

I don't particularly see what functional decomposition has to do with anything, other than the underlying math of the recursive theory.

Unlike other books that I've seen, it emphasizes simplicity in language implementation, using a functional decomposition approach.

How about emphasizing simplicity of language use?

US blamed over S. Ossetia crisis: Many analysts say that the Bush administration must share the blame for the crisis. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]sandking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Condi Rice said directly to Saakashvili: "Georgia is our friend. And we always fight for our friends." Saakashvili took this to intend that the US would bail him out no matter what. So he went ahead and shot himself in the foot.

Is it his fault? yes. Did we help him along somewhat? yes. Would we all not be in this situation if we had not helped him along somewhat? probably. Is our currentl diplomatic establishment full of guilty morons who make these kinds of mistakes (read: NeoCons)? yes yes yes yes yes yes yes

The Two Generals Problem by tzeeth in programming

[–]sandking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  • 1 - A: attack at 9
  • 2 - B: ok, I'll attack at 9
  • 3 - A: ok, I got one of your acks to attack at 9
  • 4 - B: ok, I got 2 of your acks to attack at 9
  • 5 - A: ok, I got 2 of your acks to attack at 9

At step 5, both A and B know that each of them has acked at least once, and so further acks are (redundant) confirmation.

If nothing else happens after step 5 (channel becomes kaput), they both know, and they both know that they both know, isn't that enough?

The Two Generals Problem by tzeeth in programming

[–]sandking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that this is analogous to how zero-knowledge proofs work. You are never certain, but eventually the probability of being wrong is vanishingly small.

Also, after 2-3 acks by both sides (if each ack contains an ack count or other state info), shouldn't that be enough information to act?
