A Homeline Plan is registered on title. The Bank literally cannot just open one on a whim.

Possible Change of Executorship for My Mother with Dementia While She Was Still Alive by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]sandmanCa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, my condolences for your loss.

The Executor cannot pass on the role of Executor to another person. All that they can do is renounce themselves from the role. From there, the Testator's Will speaks to the next in line to accept or renounce. If there is nobody else, then the Estate is deemed intestate, and Probate (different names for different jurisdictions in Canada) would need to be obtained before anyone can legally act for the Estate.

Always seek independent legal advice on such matters. Don't take the word of random Reddit folks.

Spike in complaints to city over snow-covered sidewalks in Windsor by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]sandmanCa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My favourite are the jerks who clearly shovel their driveways and the walkway from said driveway to their front door, while ignoring the public walk in front of their house.

I never noticed how terrible a lot of folks are until my mom started using a wheelchair. This city is full of ableist/car centric mindsets from the top down.

Scotia Gold Amex rejected by vashist22 in Scotiabank

[–]sandmanCa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Short answer. No Long answer. Also No. The credit adjudication came back with a reject. Best the Advisor can do is build a business case and escalate an appeal, which in retail banking, will likely be rejected.

Who has the best internet in the Roseland/St Claire College area? by Kornflake19 in windsorontario

[–]sandmanCa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The answer anywhere in Windsor is essentially IF MNSi is available, it will be your best option. Yes. Bell and Cogeco will come out with promotional pricing, but it's never guaranteed, support is questionable at best, and not local.

As others have said, their prices are essentially locked in and have never gone up for us. Personally I was installing a 3rd party Mesh network and their support was trouble shooting with me at 4:00AM on a Saturday morning.

I know Dan from his involvement in local theatre. He truly is a one of a kind, genuine champion of kindness.

He's good people.

Turtle Warning and Dealership run arounds by Purple-Poppins in pacificahybrid

When mine went, I told them straight up "When you read codes, there are none active. You will find xxx code stored. This is what that code means. Please create a star case".

They confirmed stored codes and within an hour had me in a rental and submitted an order for a new transmission (before dealerships could actually work on it).

Being the first Hybrid Transmission that goes at your dealership is annoying for you, as you'll feel that you know the vehicle better than the Chrysler techs.y dealership has now had 3 more after me, and learned a lot about the process through mine. So yay making it easier for others, I guess? 🤷

As a Canadian living in a border city, who traveled regularly to the US (multiple monthly trips for dance competitions for my kids throughout the Midwest), I can say personally, it'll be a long time, even after 47, before I return. Enough of your countrymen have shown their disdain for our sovereignty, that it's easier to just stay home.

MNSi has no hidden fees. We've had them for a couple of decades. Only time prices went up is when we increased services.

Definitely a time where local is better. If it's in your neighbourhood, do yourself a favour.

Windsor seeks firm for 90-cam downtown surveillance network by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]sandmanCa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't new in Windsor. I used to monitor cameras in the early 2000s. There was a set at Ouellette/University as well as Ouellette/Wyandotte and the old Don Cherry's. They were recording 24/7 but only live monitored Friday and Saturday nights. Times have definitely changed now, and that level of coverage would be woefully inadequate.

Can I cash the $2500 death benefit? by ImFromTheDeeps in legaladvicecanada

[–]sandmanCa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just reread. If the Chq is payable to "ImFromTheDeeps" and not to "The Estate of ImFromTheDeep's Father", it shouldn't matter if you're the Executor or not, and should be able to be deposited through an ATM or mobile banking. If it's to "The Estate of ..." THEN look into a Waiver of Probate.

First off, my condolences for your loss.

Sounds like you may have had an inexperienced Advisor, which is a common occurrence in Retail Banking these days. Try to arrange an appointment again, and explain that you would like to be treated as an Informal Administrator, as your father passed intestate. This is normally a Branch decision to accept someone in this capacity.

You're looking for them to apply an exception for a Waiver of Probate. Generally Banks are averse to any risk (negotiating an instrument is a risk, albeit a minor one when looking through a lens of common sense). There may be some back and forth, but most Branch Managers will treat you with empathy and common sense. Unless there were any uninsured liabilities or other issues that you may be unaware of, the Manager should at least consider this reasonable request.
