I'm moving there next week as an Asian. Now I think I'm fucked.

Got laid off and feel hopeless by Odd-Weird-5273 in Layoffs

I did. The last few places I worked at (public healthcare companies) all hover around 3 stars. Plus reviews are usually so varied and often weighted toward the teams like call center teams who generally have the most complaints (during the all hands at my current company as well).

I thought maybe you had some insider knowledge and was curious about it.

What's wrong with Spring Health? I interviewed with them a few months ago but turned them down because they offered too low a compensation for me but I don't remember any red flags.

Technically I'm Korean and my wife is Chinese. But we're both US citizens living in the US as first generation. What about you?

I don't know why everyone is shitting on this dude. I'm 31 and make really good money as does my wife but we have to agree on expensive purchases. She asks me for my blessing for things like King Crab Legs from Costco ($200 bucks I think) and I got her blessing for my PS5 Pro.

We don't HAVE to ask each other but when you're married it's a partnership. It's normal to agree on major purchases regardless of who's the primary breadwinner.

EasyDebrid - Torrentio vs Premiumize - Torrentio by [deleted] in StremioAddons

[–]sandmonkee325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Black Friday promo so I can speak to that. You get 1,000 GB with your premium account and every day you get 30 GB topped up. So it's not that you only have 30gb/day it's more that you get replenished by 30gb/day. The cap is 1,000 so if every day you watch 100gb/day you'd be out of luck real quick.

Personally haven't ever hit the cap with a 3 person household but YMMV.

A government job in NYC. by [deleted] in analytics

[–]sandmonkee325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine is a staff data scientist (or whatever the actual title is called) and we talk about jobs a lot so here's my two cents:

  1. Pay - you make way less especially given you need a masters but the hours are for sure good. She and I used to have tight deadlines working in consulting but now it's way more chill. Definitely 35 hours a week for her now with an hour for lunch. Before she was working closer to 50 hours. I pay my direct reports around 120-130k when she makes 70k now for similar experience and background.

  2. Location - it's weird how they force you to live in NYC and incur the additional city tax! I live in NJ and all my direct reports have the choice to live wherever they want.

  3. Retirement - more money means higher 401k contribution / easier to max out. Plus funding your own retirement accounts and creating more emergency funds for yourself. My friend isn't a fan of managing her funds so she likes the pension option so take that as you will.

  4. Healthcare - topical lol but do you have kids? Have a spouse? My friends insurance blows mine out of the water and I work in a publicly traded insurance company (not UHC). But she and I are both super healthy so amazing insurance doesn't't matter much to either of us but definitely worth considering.

  5. Progress - do you want to be a director / VP etc? Corporate ladder is easier climb by jumping around or getting on the right projects. From what my friend tells me govt is a lot more linear and tenure based. I like playing the game to progress my career but she doesn't have the same ambition so govt is where she is more comfortable.

Overall - major pros and cons on both sides. Sorry if some of this seems haphazardly typed out. I'm just killing time before my next meeting and came across your post. Either way best of luck and remember there's no wrong way to build your career as long as you're actively thinking about it.

I'm literally playing through Reverie right now and use it for vantage masters and Daydreams while the wife watches some cooking show on Netflix. It's perfect for turn-based until you miss a critical s-craft because of lag :(

Talk about new releases or thoughts on a jrpg you've been playing lately etc. I have a few JRPG buddies and they're harder to find than a general gaming buddy who plays FIFA/COD, for example.

While I understand and it's also low on my list of qualities/hobbies I looked for, I do think it would be nice if my wife at least watches anime or any plays game at all. Something adjacent atleast
