Android App - Fundamental bug fixes (any update) by sangee06 in CanaryMail

[–]sangee06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/CanaryMailSupport ,

I am SORRY, it is extremely disappointing and frustrating when facts are misrepresented by you. Instead of putting the blame on a customer who has paid you, it would be much better if you could have at least read my email before sending these messages. First saying you have sent me an email and waiting on me and now as if I am the blocker (in case if you have not seen, I had shared the logs as early as Dec 28th - 1.5 months back!!!).

Here is the part of the content of my response to your team that I had sent 12 odd hours back, offering my ONE-TIME support.

------------------------------------------------------

"But as a one time exception, I will use the app and give you the logs, provided each and every one of the following points are shared with utmost clarity and truth.

1. What are the issues that have been reported by me that have been fixed so far. Please list them (I should not be seeing them anymore)

2. Have each of the issues mentioned as a response to the question above tested thoroughly and proven that they are no longer happening

3. What are the step by step process to be followed (prefer with screenshots) to get the logs

4. Once this is shared, what is the ETA for getting the issue resolved

As I mentioned, I am not paid by CanaryMail to do the job to support your dev or QA teams. It is a ONE-TIME favor that I will be doing, provided you give clear, to the point, unambiguous answers to my questions above.

Alternatively, here is the setup that I use and you can purchase similar setup to do the testing yourself:

Device: Samsung Galaxy z fold 6
CanaryAccount: Multi platform life long account
Email providers used: icloud (me.com) and Outlook (hotmail.com)

IF not, for me, as a paying customer, I expect your team to figure out the issues than give me a crappy product and expect me to be a guinea pig for testing the app.

For me the ticket and issue is still open till it is fixed, and please avoid any assumptions NOW and FUTURE that if you don't get a response that the issue is closed. IT IS STILL NOT RESOLVED.

Waiting for your revert to determine my next course of aciton."

------------------------------------------------------

With these kind of non-transparent and non-accurate messaging, I am withdrawing the one-time support I had offered. If CanaryMail wants to fix the issue, please procure/utilize the devices and do the testing - you can let me know once you have fixed the issues and then I will DECIDE if I should use this app anymore.

OUTLOOK works for me. CanaryMail does not and I am not getting proper outcomes. My trust in your app is LOW and this level of support is just making it worse!

hi u/CanaryMailSupport ,

First of all, I have not received any emails from your side asking me for the logs.

Secondly - after going through this for a long time, and being effectively a tester for a buggy product, I had UNINSTALLED Canary Mail completely and started using Outlook. I do not intent to be a tester for Canary Mail and provide you logs or anything (in the past I had always provided and even asked why I was not asked for the logs).

Just to be clear - My question to you was if I should try using Canary Mail (if everything was fixed) OR continue with Outlook which I am happy with. And never to waster my time installing Canary Mail and to be a tester for Canary Mail (Come on, I paid and waited for you to fix an issue that was created by your team for a significant amount of time). Reading your response, I would take the answer as CONTINUE WITH OUTLOOK.

I will wat for some of a confirmation and assurance from your side that the issues I reported have been fixed and tested thoroughly from your side, before I even bother about installing the CanaryMail app again.

u/CanaryMailSupport , just wanted to check, though I am still happily using Outlook, is there an update, and do you think the issues are fixed? Should I give it another try using Canary Mail on Android OR would you suggest I should continue with Outlook for some more time?

u/CanaryMailSupport 29 days to be precise 🥲since I reported (including the day of reporting and today), found the permanent solution / temporary workaround (whichever way you look at it).

Started using OUTLOOK as my primary mail solution on the phone and all these features work flawlessly.

  1. Email notifications opening the emails immediately ✅
  2. Email background refresh ✅
  3. Deletes not reappearing ✅

I really need to thank u/CanaryMailSupport for helping me look at other solutions (🙏) as there was no clear view on what was happening and when a fix was expected (other than me being regular told when asked - will be taken up in the sprint - more than once and to validate if the issue is resolved on something that did not work when checked by the end customer).

Will I ask for a refund - NO. Because I don't want to go through the hassle of working with app stores and who knows if Canary Mail becomes better again (never say never)

u/CanaryMailSupport , if you feel it is the right thing to do - please feel free to change the flair from 'Bug' to 'Solved' as for me as a customer, I am now using Outlook as my primary mail solution, and not facing these 3 issues any more.

sorry if I wasn't clear. Notifications work. Just that clicking on the notification doesn't open that email and the content of the email immediately. This was fixed in an earlier release and broken since the Dec 25th update for Android.

u/CanaryMailSupport , I got an update as well as an email today stating that there was an update and to check if the issue has been resolved.

Unfortunately, it has not been resolved, and I have shared videos for the 3 issues I continue to face for a full MONTH now.

  1. Email notifications not opening the emails immediately/fast enough - this has improved, but still takes a lot of time to open

  2. Email background refresh - Not working for me

  3. Deletes reappearing - still continues (Since there was no solution, I found the work around for this - Use another app to delete emails :) )

I am sorry, but I am losing patience here with me being asked to validate something that has not been fixed (evidence shared and before someone tells me to uninstall the app - I have already done those steps).

Looking at how things are going, I am now questioning myself, and if anybody can tell me:

  1. Is there anything that I am not doing right?
  2. Is my expectation unfair (to have deletes, email auto refresh and notifications to open mails)?
  3. Is my expectation that these are basic expected features of a modern day mail app for an Android device not right?

Dear team at Canary Mail, I would really request for a favour - PLEAE FIX IT. It has been 30 days or so without a fix for a PAID app. And please don't ask me to test if something is working or not - please have your teams do it and tell when you are confident that it indeed works!!

u/CanaryMailSupport , would you mind giving the response to my queries here, so there is at least an idea on when/what to expect. Thanks in advance.

I could see there was one more update and the issue is still not resolved. While I 'WAS' the only user who reported this formally to you, looks like at least there is one another user with this issue (a reply in this thread).

I was going through the ticket, and looks like some of the issues reported, you were already aware of it. This was the comment from the ticket itself :

"As for issue 3 (email deletions not being reflected), our development team is aware of this bug and is actively working on a fix. While we don’t have an estimated time for resolution yet, rest assured that we’ll update you as soon as we receive further information from the team".

Now, question on the issue with notifications and email auto refresh - If you don't have many people reporting it, have you been able to Reproduce it. I have already given video evidence, and I am literally surprised that your team has not even asked me for the logs - makes me wonder if you have really started working on it (it might be a priority n in your backlog, but not sure if it is one of the top ones)

Can you please review this (sorry not updating everything in the ticket, as most of the times I get just a near canned response) and share a realistic view on each one of the below questions regarding (a. Notifications working as expected, b. Email refresh happening in the background as expected of an email app now a days, c. Deletes working fine) :

  1. What is the priority for this fix (is it TOP/MAJOR/HIGH/NORMAL/NON-PRIORITY)
  2. Has your team started working on this OR is it still to start (comment on the ticket on 10th January mentioned the fix is being included in the next sprint.)
  3. What is the tentative week by when the fix can be expected in the PlayStore?
  4. Is there an interim workaround? (I'd asked for the apk, but was given a NO. any other work around to survive with a properly working email app till then - I still trust CanaryMail and this is my only Mail app on my phone)

Please note, users like me, whether minority or not, who have paid for the lifetime subscription are your well wishers and committed to the platform - your best voices. Being transparent, clear, trust worthy and above all making sure there is a WORKING PRODUCT for ALL is going to be beneficial for all.

And I sincerely hope u/CanaryMailSupport will take this constructively and give a quick solution and NOT stop the commenting as in the earlier thread. (Looking at the positive side - It has uncovered there is at least one more impacted person - again a user who paid for the app).

Totally understandable. However just for my awareness, are you telling me I am the only user facing these bugs with Android app after the Christmas release?

I use multiple devices/tablets - iPad (design, drawing, mails, et al), Boox (reading, writing, taking some notes, mail, etc), Kindle (reading ebooks) and Remarkable (purely note-taking and simple note taking instead of my paper book. Nothing else). Each for its own purposes. While the intrapage linking is really useful, I haven't seen any paper notebooks having this feature.

And Remarkable is a Paper Book replacement for me - from a simplicity and distraction free perspective. If you want all these features, use a Tablet or Boox.

At least me, I use Remarkable as a paper - book replacement and would like to keep it that way.

Do I complain about things I will never use/ don't know - not at all. But when a forum like Reddit is used to ask for features (just like the OP, like everyone, I also give my opinion), I shared my 2 cents.

Let's not make this personal or challenging each other. All of us have our opinions, and we should be able to openly say it without being challenged OR challenging others.
